If everyone in the raid is on the same footing (everyone is considered a leader, for instance), it's going to cause problems. Having a clear leader that is going to organize events, make sure that regulars get invites, etc is going to serve your raid MUCH more than simply saying "3/4 of us are here, let's just raid!"
Otherwise, people get cut out of the loop and you start forming resentments. Just my $0.02.

Though i'm not sure if you know this but crash has been and is the established leader of the members that we run with now the hax group.
