Man Hug schedule as we continue to kick ToT's ass

Scaron's picture

Scaron — Wed, 06/26/2013 - 11:25

As I mentioned in another comment, I brought up a somewhat confusing issue (it seems) in suggesting some minor modifications to Man Hug's raid itinerary. I'd like to make a space where that discussion can continue.

As I note elsewhere, there are valid opinions on different sides of the issue.

I suggested the following:

"After this week, my vote would be that (provided we get at least a 10/12 clear) we begin moving to 2 week ToT clears. So on week one we take a reset and clear "farm" bosses as quickly as possible. After that, we would have time to (most likely) kill a boss or two and then have some really solid time on Lei Shen.

I think Lei Shen will take a while to master, but I think a raid can get demoralized if you head in to wiping on the same boss for weeks on end. Lei Shen is challenging and has the potential to be another Horridon. By doing a one week on farm one week on progression schedule, I think we'll minimize burnout, allow people to keep accumulating gear, and still allow ourselves solid time on Lei Shen."

The problem I propose is this: With our current schedule raiding 6 hours, 2 days per week, I think it would be difficult to make much progress and finish out the Normal modes this tier with this schedule and our current level of efficiency. If we're lucky, I would estimate (very optimistically) that we'd spend an hour a week on Lei Shen at best. Some weeks we might never see time on him at all if people are missing to RL, etc.

The solution to this issue that I proposed is that it was, and is still, my opinion that 1) it's fun to kill all the bosses in ToT regularly and 2) continuing on by trying to kill all the bosses in ToT in 6 hours over one week, is not feasible for Man Hug currently. Accordingly, I suggested that in the near future we consider moving to a schedule where every other week we extend our lockout and attempt to finish up progress in ToT. So imagine that in one week we kill the first 9 bosses of ToT. The next week, we would start at Iron Qon and continue from there. Regardless of where we finish in that week's extended raid, we would reset the raid for the following week.

I anticipate that we would (once we've mastered Iron Qon and Twin Consorts) get at least 5 hours of solid progression time on Lei Shen every other week, possibly even getting full weeks on him if we're really efficient.

Elapsed offered another solution to tthe problem I proposed. Adding another day to our raid week. This would give us 2 days to clear up to Lei Shen and then 3 full hours per week to make solid progress on him. In essence, this amounts to the same amount of approximate Lei Shen uptime (Elapsed proposed solution: ~3 hours / week, Scaron's solution ~6 hours every other week) as I proposed in my solution, but it would happen every week instead of every other week.

Valid counterpoints were raised to each of these proposals.

1. Several suggested (accurately) that my plan leads to the forefeiture of many pieces of gear and valor per week.

2. Others (including myself) suggested that Elapsed proposal requires a major restructuring and re-evaluation of schedules and priorities and in the end amounts to asking people to raid 50% more than they signed on to do when Man Hug started.

So I think those are the big points. Please discuss here, and not in the Extending the Man Hug Lockout thread so that we can keep these separate issues separate.

3 Nights a week

Shatner — Mon, 07/01/2013 - 10:13

As much as anyone, I would like to add a third day.  I just don't think we have the man (hug) power to do so.  However,

it seems adding an hour to both days seems reasonable.

adding an hour at the end

Grasen — Mon, 07/01/2013 - 12:06

adding an hour at the end would run to late for me,    adding an hour at the begining would make me constantally late,   I am often walking in the door from work and not even getting to shower before i have to sit down for raid.

our problem in adding time to

Elapsed — Mon, 07/01/2013 - 11:13

our problem in adding time to the raid is two fold

First is people are often just barely getting home in time from work to raid as is (I estimate 40% of the raid is this situation) so starting an hour early is out of the question

Secondly Lumi, Lancea and myself all raid 10 man 30 minutes after man hug ends. While I can be easily replaced with another dps. Lumi is top dps often and Lancea is MT. So adding one to the end is also sadly out of the question.

I support the 3rd night a week as well, but I ultimately believe that Man Hug will be better with the extension plan. Just due to the fact that it was started as a more casual friendly style of raid.

But on that note I want to make this clear, you have all proven to the officers and myself that You are a progression raid. All of this discussion is solely based around that fact because of how fast were killing shit now. Whichever way we decide on for ToT, will all be reset when 5.4 comes around for SoO and we'll be back to resetting every week.

This scheudling discussion is ultimately just to make sure we get the best oppertunity to clear normal as many times as we can ASAP to prep for 5.4 (also killing Lei Shen pre 5.4 will be awesome)

Once we iron out fights like Durumu and Iron Qon, a 2 night clear of normal is easily possible and we will be back to weekly lockouts. Let's make the bi-weekly a thing just to get Shen down and then get back to a normal schedule imo

I'm down for clear week +

Insta — Sat, 06/29/2013 - 19:52

I'm down for clear week + extension lock outs. I just want the guild to be able to kill Lei Shen before 5.4 patch and get gears from him and from previous bosses.

I'm not a big fan of a third

Diyana — Thu, 06/27/2013 - 14:30

I'm not a big fan of a third night. I feel like people will get burnt out and it will cease to be fun, which defeats the whole purpose of playing the game. Also everyone has different schedules due to RL obligations and trying to coordinate a third night would probably prove to be difficult.

I do like the alternating schedule, a clear week and a lock out extension week.

Another idea that occurred to me was starting a half hour earlier than we usually do so that raid is 3 1/2 hours instead of 3 giving us an extra hour each week without adding a third day. But, since raid starts at like 6 pm west coast I realize that might not work for those in that time zone since that would make start time 5:30 pm for those folks which I'm sure for some is too early.

Anyway, that is my 2 cents. Thoughts?

I like the idea of 2 week ToT

Ghostess — Thu, 06/27/2013 - 11:42

I like the idea of 2 week ToT clears so thats where my vote goes ;-)

Well, there's also another

Hayae — Thu, 06/27/2013 - 11:15

Well, there's also another option; depending on how successful Virtual Realms are, we could field a 3rd day by mixing up different people if we get enough individuals from recruitment. The downside is that some regulars wouldn't be able to raid some weeks, and there will be a substantial gear gap if the new people need gearing. My thoughts.

I like Scaron's idea of

Daisey — Thu, 06/27/2013 - 08:03

I like Scaron's idea of extending the raid every other week. This way we still get to kill bossses, get valour points, gear and spend time working of getting down the last boss.

Are Valour points like Velour

Elapsed — Thu, 06/27/2013 - 11:13

Are Valour points like Velour points? Because I want to know what the Soft cap is on Velour points!

I am sorry I cannot do 3

Ardea — Wed, 06/26/2013 - 21:02

I am sorry I cannot do 3 nights a week.

chaca's picture

To be honest I like both

chaca — Wed, 06/26/2013 - 16:42

To be honest I like both solutions.

But I agree with Scaron that scheduling a 3rd raid will be a challenge in terms of finding an extra day that fits on 25 people's schedule. To give an example, my only available extra day is thursday. Will that fit everybody's schedule? I doubt it.

So let's read what everybody else thinks!

Elapsed's picture

Also you only speak of normal

Elapsed — Wed, 06/26/2013 - 12:46

Also you only speak of normal modes so far, Heroics are another ball game entirely and at this rate we will have time to dabble in one or two of them. Both ideas are setup to offer support for this. With Scaron's extension offering a bit more due to having an extra day per lockout.

BTW the math on here for 9 bosses is 54 items, While it can be said much of this gear has gone offspec or DE lately, we still have yet to see a few items and also only had some of the items drop once, or maybe twice. So were looking at gear that say 3-5 people wanted but only 2 got. This leads to some people still using MSV-ToES gear as we look to possibly progress to heroics, which will be an enormous hinderance.

Either way our schedule will need to open up to accomplish this goal, and it would be great to get people being vocal. Remember to not get overly defensive of a side and not just take a side because "person A" says it's the right thing.
