Ele Shaman Dps

I seem to not be performing as what I expect others at my gear level might be capable of doing. I do not think we have any ele shamans out there, but maybe someone has an alt or maybe one of the resto/enhance can help me out.
Here is the basic rotation I cast:
Flame totem, fire elemental then searing Flame Shock, always up on main target. If 8-9 seconds left, recast before I drop my 20 charge earth shock
Unleash flame, whenever castable, preferably after I just cast flame shock
Lava burst, always, keeping an eye for instant cd reset and instant cast
Lightning Bolt when ever everything else is down
Use trinkets and Asendance when up, may or may not be with heroism
Seems pretty simple, moving a lot really hurts the lb cast and lava burst. Am I missing something? Last night I was seeming myself inbetween 16-17.5k. I am at i641 and feel like I should be nuking out 20+k in beginning of fight

My primary alt is a shaman
Badwulf — Tue, 12/16/2014 - 14:33My primary alt is a shaman with resto and ele specs. My rotation is a little different than yours. Mainly I keep earthquake up as much as possible as well. You can basically replace one of your filler lighting bolts with earthquake every 10-12 seconds or so and if it is placed right will do a lot more dmg than the bolt.
Talents:
I prefer Ancestral Swiftness over Echo of the Elements. The passive 5% spell haste is noticeable and just macro the on-click to lightning bolt to give you an instant bolt every 90 sec. That said, there is a case to be made for taking elemental mastery and using it with heroism on raid fights for really high burst dps. Echo of the Elements seems like the weakest of this tier though.
I actually prefer elemental blast over unleash fury but either of them seems fine so no reason for you to change that.
With that your rotation would be:
During the pull countdown:
Fire elemental totem, Unleash Flame, Earthquake, pre-pot
On the pull:
Flame Shock, Lava Burst, Ascendance, Lava Burst spam until ascendance fades.
Then start your rotation/cast priority:
Searing Totem (if it is about to fade)
Flame Shock (if it is about to fade)
Earth Shock (with full charges)
Earthquake
Unleash Flame
Lava Burst
Lightning Bolt spam
Ideally you will time it so that your shocks and earthquakes are in the 5 second window between when unleashed fury has faded and when unleash flame is back off cooldown. That way you will get the full benefit of unleashed fury by doing nothing but spamming Lava Bursts and Lightning bolts with the buff up. (This is part of why I prefer Elemental Blast, but not sure which actually parses higher).
The only other thing to mention is that during any movement I will go ahead and refresh my Searing Totem and Flame Shocks even if they are not near fading because it is a free global cooldown that I could not have used on a cast time spell anyway.
Anyway, I have not done a lot of testing to prove this is optimal. I play resto much more often than elemental and mostly just took the rotation from the Icy Veins guide. So do not consider me an authority, but it is worth trying the few changes to see how it plays out. Let me know the results so I can adjust my style accordingly haha.
Actually before last night's
KeithC19 — Wed, 12/17/2014 - 10:39Actually before last night's raid I got a response from mmo forums. Here is what they suggested.
You need to watch flame shock and earth shock not triggering at same time. It is difficult but necessary. They told me to drop earth shock anywhere between 15-20 charges if it means I can cast flame shock 2-9 seconds before expiring.
Also as you stated and I did not, casting searing totem or flame shock when forced to move is a great idea. Also chain lightning on 2 targets with a flame shock on each if I have to move was effective.
I do not think the earthquake is versatile, except the pre pull one. If it is single target I do not have the time to cast it as my lava burst procs and shocks are always triggered within that cast time. If I have to cancel an earthquake to cast an instant lava burst the lightning bolt is just a safer bet.
I also re glyphed the flame shock minor heal with fire elemental at 2.5 minutes. Those minor changes made me see a 2.5k+ dps increase last night. I think the biggest change was the earth shock and flame shock not conflicting with one another. the 15+ charge rule if flame shock needed to be re cast in the next 4-6 was a good idea.
