Since my Pally reached 70, the nerd in me started to look at possible gear upgrades. And guess what happened, I of course planned out my whole upgrade path. I'd probably never even see half this stuff, but whatever, call me a dreamer. lol
So I needed some system to rank the gear. I did find some stat weights to use on EJ so I went with that.
Healing: 1 (Base Value)
Intellect: 2.25
Spell Crit: 2.25
MP5: 4.5
Spell Haste: 2.0
Anyways, tell me of the ranks look approximately correct if you can, or if you see anything vastly wrong with the list or something I'm missing, tell me please!

Quick question on
saedo — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 15:43Quick question on downranking. So on my bars I only have down to Rank 6 HL. Only cause there's no more room. Unless I remove something or add more buttons. So I use that to keep Light's Grace up.
Well by coincidence it seems, it's also the the rank that just surpasses FoL. Rank 5 seems to do the same, while Rank 4 does less. So I was wondering, this Rank 6 a good number to be at? Or keep it higher? Go lower?
I use only 3 ranks of Holy
garreth — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 15:52I use only 3 ranks of Holy Light:
11 - When I have mana to spare and I'm doing a lot of stop-casting (see: Kalecgos)
9 - A high-rank, "spammable" power heal. A little more efficient than 11 (mana-to-heal ratio), and lower cost. I use this to spam heal tanks like the mage-tank on Council or the MT on Brutallus that's not currently affected by Stomp.
7 - Only worthwhile if the target has Blessing of Light on them. With my libram switching mod + 2pc T6 bonus + 3/3 Santified Light, I can can spam HL7 and actually GAIN mana back while putting out some solid HPS. I'm over 41% HL crit and HL7 crits for over 3.4k on a BoL tank :)
I'm finding that the 4pc T6 bonus is so damn good that I'm starting to spam max-rank Flash of Light again. I miss un-nerfed Illumination :(

saedo — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 16:14So rank 9 is what I can spam for the sake of Light's Grace? Or should I not bother with trying to keep it up?
Rank 9 is a spell you can
garreth — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 16:47Rank 9 is a spell you can cast on a tank that will keep Light's Grace up while not letting him die. If your tank has Blessing of Light and/or Amplify Magic and there are some others focus healing him, go with rank 7.
I use ClassTimers will the "Self" collection of bars right within my line of sight so that I can watch that Light's Grace timer wear down. If you spec to Imp Righteous Fury like me for the damage reduction, ClassTimers shows that as well.

saedo — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 17:01Yea I have that on the upper left side of my grid. I got imp righteous but turned it off to not show me that, and other 30 min buffs. Only need to see the short term buffs at a quick glance.
Oh yea that Librammeister mod isn't gonna work next patch right? When item swapping will stop spell casts.

garreth — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:35I see abilities like Illumination and Divine Favor as gas for a car, not the nitrous you pop to win the race.
In other words, by macro'ing Illumination and DF to everything they can possibly affect, you'll win the race in the long run. By using them every time they are up, they contribute to your total healing pool much more than by only using them "at the right time."
I use Divine Favor the moment it's up. I can get it in about 8 or 9 times on Illidan. Do I know if it was Holy Light or Flash that it affected? Nope. There isn't a wow player out there that can time Divine Favor just right to save the day on a main tank (remember, this is on the cast that will be over in 2 seconds). Use it early, use it often, and watch your total pool of available healing climb.
Don't save your specials ;)

im a big fan of illumination
Sorreah — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:21im a big fan of illumination and trinkets with Shock macro
control is great and the reason you only macro those abilities to some things that you know you want to use them with 9/10 anyway
even with illumination macrod it was on my bars
Hehe thanks. And nope, Holy
saedo — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:01Hehe thanks.
And nope, Holy Shock is not macro'd yet. It's only a "oh shit" button so far. Pop it after a silence/stun/repetence/etc. Not sure where else to use it. It seems to be a huge mana hog to be using it a lot.
Yea Aiden, I toldz you my gear suxors! Guess you missed it when I said I had 11 blues and a green! I barely has epix! lol
But anyways, I prob need to make up more macros. I didn't like macro'ing all my CDs on the rogue cause I wanted control. Like no BF around CC'd mobs (well try to at least ;p) but might pop the AR, or a BF + Heroism for extra goodness.
I still want a bit of control though. Seems like popping everything at the end of a trash kill is pointless. I'm also thinking I should save Divine Illumination for when I'm casting Holy Lights only. I could use it for FoL but my mana never really goes down chain casting that so seems like a waste.
The wow god's gave you
Aidin — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:16The wow god's gave you CD's...USE EM! lol
I tie my trinkets, and my paladin cd's to FoL, HL, AND Shock...3k+ shock crits ftw! Use em on trash dude..they WILL be back and used in Boss fights...I promise! And if you do pop Divine Illum...well i'm sure u have timers...so when it pops on a FoL, you then switch to HL...while it's up...no waste there!
You did awesome in Gruul/Mag...I have taken other healers in blues and greens, and they did NOT hold their own...You however did...I'm glad I missed your pst. :)

Yeah, what aidin said.
garreth — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:26Yeah, what aidin said. Healing at later stages is a marathon. It's all about what I've dubbed the "Total Generated Healing Pool". Basically, I look at healing like drops in a giant bucket of total healing done. Whatever contributes to that bucket -- like +heal on-use trinkets, mana cooldowns like illumination or mp5 on-use trinkets -- makes that bucket larger. The goal after a 20 minute long Illidan kill or 8 minute long Kalecgos kill is to have absolutely maximized the total pool amount of healing generated.
As paladins, we never stop casting. We're actually built so that the more we cast, the more mana we generate. As such, using all available CDs at all times contributes heavily to our overall healing done.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes yes use em. lol But
saedo — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:23Yes yes use em. lol But the nerd in me is still striving for max efficiency! lol Popping Divine Illum on the FoL still means that one spell, that 1.5 sec spell it was used on something else. Only 90 mana saved instead of 420 mana! Well I'm thinking for now, DI off the FoL macro and only in the HL macros? Oh well or maybe I'll just try it all next time. lol
I understand what you mean
Aidin — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 14:33I understand what you mean about control. I was the same way..I didn't macro shit..I wanted to pop it at the right moment all the time.
Then Garreth beat me into submission.
What I found out is there is (as a healer) no "perfect moment" to pop those cd's, and by macroing them all to my all 3 of my heals, I used my cd's almost twice as much with my macros as I did without. (even though I swore I watched my cd's and popped em when they were up)
/ end macro rant that was beat into my brain by Garreth.

saedo — Sun, 07/06/2008 - 02:04So thanks to Magnus (aka Sorreah) I got to run a chance to do a KZ on the pally. It was interesting staring at more colored boxes than usual. lol
I think I sucked a little less cause at least the others were decently geared. But I got parses too, if anyone wants to help me go over what i could improve on. http://wowwebstats.com/g1cnhc1z6dhr1?m
So I start pouring over you
Aidin — Mon, 07/07/2008 - 07:28So I start pouring over you KZ parses after thinking "wow Saedo did really well in Gruul/Mag"...
Hmmm 10% more crit on your Holy Shock then your Flash of Light...you only thru 3 Holy Shocks, use it more IMO, it's and instant FoL.
Were you and Diky the only true healers? Looks like the priests were both shadow...impressive considering my next point...
I tried to check you're trinket pops (ya know make sure you had em macro'ed), so I go to the armory and find out that BOOM your ass is still wearing blues and friggin GREENS OMG! So then I think...way to fuckin go Aidin...you took his ass to Gruul/Mag, no gear check...broke your own rules. So I go back to the Gruul/Mag parses and see you're blue wearing ass beat some shammy healers...KUDOS! (you even beat Watches on Mulgar, but I'll admit that was my fault...cause I stuck him on the mage tank...cause I was skeered to put you on him your first time out the box...OH YES YOU ARE MAGE TANK HEALER FROM NOW ON!.
I like when good DPS can be good healers. You, Atar, Derchelon, Shihli, Watches, and I'm sure I'm missing a few...all have taken well to the healing class. Being some of the best tank/DPS we have in guild, and rolling a healer gives you such a broad spectrum of the game, and appreciation for the grass on the other side...greener or not.

So, been a while since my
saedo — Tue, 07/01/2008 - 17:41So, been a while since my last rant here. I think I broke the list. lol
Anyways, on to what inspired this rant. So I ran a Heroic Slave Pens today. It was far easier that I anticipated. lol Maybe a better group, or maybe a bit better in gear.
My original plan was to get a few more normal 5 mans under the belt before I dabble in the heroics. Really haven't done much, like 3 Slabs, 2 SV, 1 BM, 1 Mech, and half a Shat Halls. That's it. lol
So I should prob be more inclined to do a heroic nowadays. And what this leads up to is what to spend it on.
I do have on my list what could be the most efficient use of badges. That would put [Libram of Mending] on top, but it's only mp5 through HL use. I'm tempted to try to gun for something that'll be more noticable like bigger heals, which would make [Waistguard of Reparation] the thing to get. The mp5 from that libram would only be noticable if I go oom or something (or rather avoid going oom) when I chain HL, though for 5 mans atm it doesn't seem to happen often.
Yea it seems I did forget.
saedo — Thu, 06/19/2008 - 15:03Yea it seems I did forget. lol
BTW, the way to link is to do a [ item ] Item [ / item ] minus all the spaces I put.
Anyways, [item]Shattered Sun Pendant of Restoration[/item].
Stats alone: 70 + 7*4.5 = 101.5
I'm raising this toon as Aldor fortunately.
Proc: 220 healing for 10 sec, 45 sec CD
Proc Value: 220*10 / 45 = 48.8889
Total Value = 150.38889
Hmm, this seems to put it right below the S3 haste neck I have on the list, and above the Gruul's neck. So yea pretty damn good before TK/BT/ZA/SP stuff.
Just for the hell of it, Scryer proc analysis.
618-682 heal, 45 sec CD.
It seems to crit, so assuming based on your own spell crit. A bit harder to actually work out. So average non-crit heal is (618+682)/2 = 650. Average crit heal would be a 650*1.5 = 975.
Um, so if I just go with my current crit rate of 21.71%.
Proc Value = (0.2171*975 + (1-0.2171)*650) / 45 = 16.0124
Heh, so less than 1/3 of the aldor proc value. Neck Value = 117.5124
But this crit could mean it could scale high enough eventually?
30% crit: (0.3*975 + 0.7*650) / 45 = 16.6111
40% crit: (0.4*975 + 0.6*650) / 45 = 17.3333
100% crit: 975 / 45 = 21.667
So Scryer necks can never really come close to Aldor necks. lol
Saedo you seemed to forget
Sorreah — Thu, 06/19/2008 - 14:22Saedo you seemed to forget the SSO rep neck
which even without proc is proabably going to fall pretty hihg on your list and with proc may be very high

saedo — Tue, 06/17/2008 - 10:43Heh yea. Definitely had to use that to keep people up. But it wasn't a particularly spectactular group either. People that don't run out of that hammer thing. People that don't kick the overcharge on the bots. People that pull when I have to drink. etc, etc. lol
But I think I'll bring elixirs and a bit more pots next time. Consumables for heroics to compensate for nub gear! lol [Adept's Elixir] and [Elixir of Draenic Wisdom] seems like the best combo.
