music, ja
Deje — Thu, 07/10/2008 - 21:37
so, i couldn't find (didn't look for :D) an old thread about this. i figured i'd start a new one.
pretty simple, what kinda music do you guys like?
i've got an open mind, so i listen to all kinds of music. anywhere from the heaviest thrash anthems to the softest alternative requiems. often my music tastes always relate back to some variety of ska (less than jake, operation ivy, big d and the kids table, catch 22, streetlight manifesto, reel big fish, etc.) so i'd have to say it's prolly my favorite genre overall. i have soft spots for post-rock, (good)hip-hop/indierap, punk, and folk as well as many others though.
i grew up on the beatles and don't like to go a day without hearing at least one of their songs. some of my other favorite bands from each world include radiohead, modest mouse, explosions in the sky, múm, bomb the music industry!, islands, and some classic essentials like david bowie, the rolling stones, the kinks, and the velvet underground.
++ i always have to link my last.fm ( http://www.last.fm/user/lemonpolice/ ), either for those who also have one or just as a more accurate list.
so, what kinda stuff does downfall's best like to listen to?

Nellem1 — Sat, 07/12/2008 - 11:23i cry when i read this, only for 2 reasons though: only a small mention of hip hop artists, and very little mention of Old school R&B artists.
let's take it back: Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind & Fire, The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, Ray Charles, The Supremes, The Jackson Five, Barry Manilow, Barry White, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson (oh yes), Stevie Wonder just to name a few.
How about: Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Queen, Lynard Skynard, The Sex Pistols, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to name some more.
Nate Dogg, Snoop, Dre, Scarface, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Biggie, 2Pac, Mos Def, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, Luda, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and here's a shout out to an underground rapper i found back when i was in High School over 5 years ago:

Deje — Fri, 07/11/2008 - 15:24i haven't heard them but i have heard *of* them. i'm sad to say the only frontman to a popular band i've met is Anthony Green (Saosin, Circa Survive, The Sounds of Animals Fighting). he's a douchebag and used to live in my neighborhood.

Aidin — Sat, 07/12/2008 - 09:39I've been to thousands of shows and met so many people over the years. The most notable...
Shavo - bass player from SoaD & front man from StaticX (name escapes me), just quick convos at Oz Fest here in Dallas.
Papa Roach - entire band. We saw them a a rinky dink bar in Dallas ...there were like 10 people at the show. (obviously before anyone knew who they were. Drank with them for hours...lol) They came back a few yrs later to the same place and actually remembered us, and gave us love in a PACKED crowd.
Chris - front man Saves the Day. I met him at a 21+ show in Philadelphia where they played under the advertised name "sweet fracture"...such a weird guy..lol
And the most notable...Slipknot. Those fuckers are NUTZ. Met them for the first time in Dallas, and got a chance to hang out with them for a few hours before a show in OK City. Corey had the hots for a friend...which shortly there after became my sister in law..lol. Hanging with them, got to meet the guys from Mudvayne as well...they aren't very social though.
There are many more...but I won't bore you...lol
