The Great Boomkin Experiment
Disrupter — Sun, 07/13/2008 - 20:55
I've been allowed to Boomkin it up in alot of instances recently, and I've been looking over parses and trying different rotations. I'm really interested in seeing what a Boomkin can do, and I'm sure some people in guild are interested in said subject as well.
I'm making this blog to post some personal dps record I have made as Boomkin in the 25 man's. With a date of the lowest dps record, and a date of the highest dps record. Just so I can see my progression as I gather Zul'aman and other pieces of gear.
If anyone is curious as to what a Boomkin really brings to raid besides their own personal dps, they bring the fire.
Improved Fairie Fire: +3% Hit for all physical damage. This includes tanks, hunters, even hunters pets. Anything that does physical damage will make use of this.
Insect Swarm: -2% Hit for the boss, it stacks with the hunter's hit reduction debuff as well. Basically, 2% avoidance.
Moonkin Aura: 5% Spell crit for everyone in the Boomkins group. This can be useful for healers AND dps. How this benefits the raid can be pretty complicated to explain, but with the raid we have in hamfist, it can help our dps and healers, that aren't even in the Boomkins group, at the same time. (Example, a shadow priest mindflaying while a shadowbolt debuff is up, and regenning that groups mana.)
Some people scoff at Boomkins, and some praise them. I'm attempting to see, if they're worth a raid spot, in the best way I can. Taking the wheels of a Boomkin in raids, and optimizing him to the best of my abilities, to see just how well it scales.

ohhh, doomkin are not
Atakheal — Wed, 07/30/2008 - 12:20ohhh, doomkin are not waste of time on raids they are really usefull, have really nice dps and plus.....like every roll class, i couldnt see any elemental shami around here, idk why, is cuz we need shami healers ? idk but are nice in dps and plus.
pd: in my old guild there is a doomkin, he is almost always TOP dps.
Chain Heal FTW
If the moonkin tops dps in
Disrupter — Fri, 08/08/2008 - 00:32If the moonkin tops dps in your other guild then your tanks must be really good at threat generation, lol.
Tonight:
http://wowwebstats.com/l1q2vyekgkpuo?s=86461-102528
1639 dps, highest dps so far! On this particular fight I would contribute over 120 dps to a warlock in our raids gear (it would scale with the longer pressence of a heroism, aka, a 3+ min fight would get more out of a heroism then a 6 minute fight. And thus the damage would be more from the buffs during said heroism.)
So with a shammy, 3 warlocks of hamfist style gear. Thats 2k dps right there, and thats an underestimate. No imp FF counter for, or anything. I think it's safe to say that Disrupta , raid dps wise , pwwwwns Disrupter. Disrupter has better "personal" dps, aka, farms better, has higher #'s on the chart... but the lack of synergy for the mage, is his own downfall.
Can't wait to see 2k on that fight :P.
I am looking forward to
Disrupter — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 07:12I am looking forward to doing Teron Gorefiend again, tonight. He's a very very good DPS test for Disrupta, even if he nukes my 2nd set of treants.
I was doing some theorycraft/math/dps-calculating like a good bored little geek :P. And I've come up with some interesting numbers.
If you look at my Total dps, in the parses, and you look at my spell's damage and my treants damage, you'll notice that the treants are "physical" damage, and not actually spell damage. I was trying to figure out what damage Disrupta would of done if his treants would survive the full 30 second duration, and he had a shadow priest keeping up Misery. (5% extra spell damage done.)
Disrupta had done a total of:
Starfire: 301,154 75% 1209.5~ of total DPS
Moonfire 50,320 13% 202~ of total DPS
Insect Swarm 35,814 9% 144~ of total DPS
Treants 14,293 4% 57.5~ total DPS
Total Damage 401,581 Total DPS 1639
Now if we add up the "non" physical damage, and multiply it by 1.05, to simulate the shadow priest Misery debuff, we change these "total" numbers to.
Total Damage 420945 Total DPS 1690.5~
Thats about a 51 DPS increase, from having that one buff that I didn't have, not to mention if he was in my group and I was able to pop Destruction potions instead of Super Mana potions.
Now, Teron Gorefiend is an asshole that likes to kill my Treants, but, assuming the "Stars Alligned" and my Treants were able to survive their full duration each time, they could do upwards of 26k damage.
http://wowwebstats.com/sftihpdft2oue?s=135178-164793&a=x7340b7
This is our most recent Brutallus kill, 6 minutes, 2 chances to summon treants. Unlike Teron, my Treants only die - if someone fails. They did 26,044 Damage, thats the "baseline" possible damage I'll use for this little "what if" theorycraft I'm putting together.
Instead of 14293 damage, which is 57.5~ DPS, the treants survive and do 26044 damage, which is 104.5~ DPS.
So the new totals:
Total Damage 432696 Total DPS 1738~
That is a very interesting number to me, 1738 DPS from a moonkin still not quite sporting anywhere near optimal gear for his raids progression. The problem though is I'll never beable to test all of this out, fully, we'll never have the same group set up LF1M had PLUS a shadow priest. We hardly ever bring HBK as a ret pally, and we don't really have any elemental shammies.
That and my Treants will probably never reach their full potential on that boss. But nonetheless, it's nice figuring out what is "possible" vs what is "real". If we did have the shadow priest in that particular raid, and my treants DID survive full duration, the boss would of died sooner, increasing the raid wide dps substantially, the spriests debuff would do the same for every caster. And thus raid wide dps would go up substantially.
I'll be attempting to shoot
Disrupter — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 07:21I'll be attempting to shoot for 1700 on Tuesday, on Teron Gorefiend. Hope to see a Ret pally in raid, and maybe an ele shaman for shitz and gigglez? Huh? Huh? *pokes Turth* I KNOW YOU HAvE SOME GEAR FOR ELE. Lol...
This blogs open, wouldn't mind some feedback/questions/"OMG it's a moonkin" and other responses of the sort, gives me something to read while at work!
Er, meant TUESDAY night. And
Disrupter — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 07:43Er, meant TUESDAY night. And I apparently can not edit the post, lol.
spellhit(to cap) >
Keisjaa — Mon, 07/14/2008 - 11:14spellhit(to cap) > spelldmg(till about 1200) > haste(after 1200 or so can be interchanged with dmg) > Crit > other shit
Here's some interesting/fun
Disrupter — Mon, 07/28/2008 - 04:48Here's some interesting/fun moonkin theorycraft some of you pvp moonkins might be interested in.
Right now, you currently have 3 ways to have off the cast time of Starfire.
A spell crit, proccing natures grace - a .5 second cast reduction on your next cast.
4 piece wyrmhide (I only need a chest, or pants to get it) reduces your next starfire by 1.5 (chance on wrath)
Last, is haste. If you can manage to get enough haste, to reduce your starfire by 1 second, you could have, instant starfires.
Imagine this moonkin hitting you in the face for 4k, then instantly smacking you for 7.5-8k.
Overpowered? I think so :).
I'm sporting s3 helm/shoulders, and s1 gloves, another s1 piece and I'll have that 4 piece, and get to test out it with some haste gear. Should be amazingly fun for soloing, but that ability to burst would be pretty hard to control.
#1 m(o.O)nkin. I'm proud to
Disrupter — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 12:43#1 m(o.O)nkin.
I'm proud to say 'Rupta is now a 1500+ dps moonkin. There is still a very large amount of room for improvement though.
With the gear that drops from the bosses we kill, we could have a 1825 dps moonkin.
Thats a very high dps, for a class that brings buffs to the raid out increases the dps.
The imp fairie fire and the 5% crit is hundreds of more dps. I'm hearing reports of people being able to switch 3 pieces of gear, to get the most out of the buffs. With a moonkin, of my consistancy, you could gem/gear around my buff to make the most use of it.
Now, some people will say "what if he dies" "what if he doesn't show" "what if he fucks up and doesn't keep up the buff'. These are all concerns some raiders might have.. but the point of a raid is Synergy. If we aren't willing to take advantage of the buffs our raiders give us, we may as well not even have them.
I gemmed/geared around my optimal group set up on Disrupter, assuming certain buffs I would usually get. When I didn't get one of those buffs, it hurts my dps. Obviously, but with all the gear you get/go through, your bound to have back up hit gear that you saved because it was just THAT good, incase you needed it with certain upgrades.
I'm curious to hear from the dpsers that make use of a moonkin buffs, how much of a dps increase a moonkin in raid is for them. It's not set amount for each class, some people may just not have the ability to get rid of the hit, some may beable to make full use. I'd like to know who those are :).
Correct. Mind Flay only
Fjork — Mon, 07/14/2008 - 11:09Correct.
Mind Flay only really gets bonus from +spell, not +crit. That is why most SP's gear more towards +spell hit than +spell crit. (at least at first that I know of)
That meleekin I saw on
saedo — Mon, 07/14/2008 - 00:19That meleekin I saw on Tidewalker is basically the stereotype I envisioned for the boomkin. lol You def gotta avoid those situations.
Long story short my mana
Disrupter — Mon, 07/14/2008 - 09:37Long story short my mana batterie died and I didn't notice. I was too low on mana when I noticed Chrislow had died. That and I had been trying out my Icon of the Silver Crescent, and my Blessings Deck together, instead of my Sorceror Alchemist Stone.
Long story short - human error :P. It happens. I lasted those Long as hell Kael fights without a shadow priest, because I would pot preemptively, knowing I'd oom otherwise.
Practice makes perfect!
Need a shadowpriest to
Disrupter — Mon, 07/14/2008 - 11:00Need a shadowpriest to answer this, it's actually mind blast, not mind flay, that can crit, right?
Yea. Mindflay is their
saedo — Mon, 07/14/2008 - 11:07Yea. Mindflay is their channelled dot as it seems. Only Mind Blast and Shadow Word: Death can crit for em.
Any idea if I made him blow
Grasen — Mon, 07/14/2008 - 07:25Any idea if I made him blow his brez on tidewalker, I always make rupta,s brez a last resort as I know once I have him do it i'm pretty much tradeing him for whoever I have him bring up. I Have really enjoied bringing Rupta to ssc/tk. IMO Boomkins hold a very viable spot in raid. I look forward to seeing you blow more shit up in tk this week Rupta.
