WotLK spell,hit,crit changes
Caronte22 — Sat, 08/09/2008 - 16:27
- Hit Rating, Critical Strike Rating, and Haste Rating now modify both
melee attacks and spells.
- Spellpower:
All items and effects which grant bonuses to spell damage and spell
healing are being consolidated into a single stat, Spellpower. This
stat will appear with the same values found on items which grant
"increased spell damage and healing" such as on typical Mage and
Warlock itemization.
For classes which do not heal, they should see no change in the
character sheet other than new tooltip wording.
Healing characters will see their bonus healing numbers on the
character sheet decrease, however, all healing spells have been
modified to receive more benefit from spellpower than they received
from bonus healing, with a net effect of no change to the amount
healed by their spells. Some talents have had to be rebalanced to
accommodate this change, but the amount healed will remain roughly
the same. In addition, some talents will provide only healing spell
power.

Keep in mind that although
Dufe — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 12:02Keep in mind that although more people will be going for each item, there will be less items that drop; ie, a boss that used to drop 20 some odd different items will now only have to drop something like 10, raising the odds that a particular item will drop. So having more people going for the same items shouldn't really cause an overall increase in farm time at all.
Keep in mind too, Rupter,
Shihli — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:42Keep in mind too, Rupter, that Blizzard has said (at least for feral druids) that they didn't dig the way itemization had to work for them -
Overall, Blizzard is moving towards a system where items aren't designed *clearly* for one class/spec, but rather for a wide variety of specs. That way, gear doesn't go to waste and only rarely has to get sharded.
Less shards is a good thing,
Disrupter — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:59Less shards is a good thing, I couldn't really careless as long as they make an EQUIVALENT cloth/leather/mail/plate item. Positive side is less sharding, negative side is - when will we see an item/trinket/ring/other that EVERY healer/dps wants.
(Such as a spellpower/haste weapon, or ring/trinket.) 2/3 of the raid going for the same item is going to be interesting.
I think blizz is just doing
saedo — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:36I think blizz is just doing more badge gear. Not just any badges, but instance specific badges. Like badges you can only get from Naxx for a certain level of badge gear.
---------------------------------------------
This also means that
Shihli — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:27This also means that everyone gets gear faster as a whole, Zifter. That's not a bad thing, as it also means that less gear goes to waste overall.
While I understand that
Olorien — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:25While I understand that blizzard is trying to reduce the number of items that they need to create for allthe different specs. As a Lock this sounds bad to me, because now casters will have to roll against not only eachother byut all the clothy healers as well. Which means that we will see either:
A. a huge increase in crappy caster gear at low level, this making the overall pool of gear lower quality, or
B. make it significantly harder to equip caster classes
Both option do not appeal to me.
Basically my only concern is
Disrupter — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:30Basically my only concern is every healers AND every caster dps wanting the same item, because it's so oply made, that the gear can be an upgrade for any class/spec.
Aka, such as the problem now, certain "leather" gear, is better for shamans and pallies, then it is for healing druids. And some cloth healing gear, is better for druids then their own leather. Something for moonkins. Best in slot, all of it, cloth. All of the sunwell "tier 6.5" pieces, that are best in slot for a moonkin, are cloth. Some for a resto druid, is cloth... this could be solved with better itemization but.. I doubt... blizzards capability of doing that.
I guess it's not necessarily
Disrupter — Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:36I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing... anything with spell haste/spellpower on it would be attractive to every mage/warlock/other caster and every resto shammy/pally/priest as far as I can tell. Hopefully it goes well and everyone gets their shit!
