I think everyone will need that.

But just because I got all my gear using this strat http://www.darklegacycomics.com/152.html doesn't mean I can't keep spamming rejuv on the mages and let the tank die.

cromi — Tue, 05/12/2009 - 08:41

Thanks for the invite I had a great time last night going after YS. I just didn't like not being prepared, and having to mooch off of raiders for things i should have brought to a raid in all situations. So sorry for having to mooch off of the raid last night and not carrying around the essential things.

You did great.  This week

garreth — Tue, 05/12/2009 - 09:16

You did great.  This week will really stretch our healers in Kitten Brigade.  If we need you and you're able to step up, it will be time to bring you in.

bluetouguyss — Sun, 05/10/2009 - 10:45

I wasnt really thrilled when crom sent a message in raid 20 min before our stopping time that he needed to leave to go and I quote "take a shower"?!?!  Yeah that was a first and really I thought in poor taste especially right before our last try on thaddius!  I guess he did decide against it after we gave him enough crap for it but the fact that a guild app did that was not the best idea imho.

cromi's picture

It wasnt that I wanted to

cromi — Sun, 05/10/2009 - 15:01

It wasnt that I wanted to leave and take a shower I had something going on at five. It wasnt until I had said that and gotten up to take a shower that i realized git'r'done had its raid at 5 and that it would be the last chance at thad. I try my hardest not to go afk during boss fight and i needed to go at 5:30 so i thought that since i was a healer on thad the most i could do was some weak dps, and add in an extra stack of the charge. I thought, without thinking, that you would need heals for a boss such as kt or saph rather.

Sounds like things went bad

Shinzwei — Sun, 05/10/2009 - 15:11

Sounds like things went bad and you bailed. Next time might wanna try and pull the cable from the modem and pretend your net was out. Trust me it works ;>

 I hate leaving raids early.

cromi — Sun, 05/10/2009 - 18:05

I hate leaving raids early. I don't like to think I have let the raid down in some way. And when i get into a raid I like to stay in a raid. Now when im running a low level through vc and my friend calls up asking to do something. Then i will remember that.

Torvo's picture

Leaving early is one thing

Torvo — Sun, 05/10/2009 - 23:15

But you signed up to be there until 5, and didn't mention maybe needing to leave early until that point in the raid. I'm really glad you decided to come back and help us finish up, but the whole situation told me a couple things:

  1. When the going got tough, you were looking for an excuse to bail
  2. You don't seem to have a very good grasp of your personal schedule, if you knew you had somewhere to be at 5:30 and didn't know what that thing was until you went to get ready for it

Now this was an isolated incident, and from what I've seen it doesn't necessarily feel like a trend yet. But, as the above comments point out, it is kind of a big screwup to make. In your defense, I really don't think you were bailing on our raid just to get ready for your next one, since who the hell gets up from the computer just to take a shower and then come back to sit at the computer again for 3 hours? But that doesn't excuse away my two points above.

If I can't count on you to be present, and to be giving me 100% on every fight, then we have a problem. If this incident was just a mistake and you want to come back and prove to me that it won't happen again, I expect to see it in your performance starting with this week.

Lastly, you've gotta do something about your performance on Thaddius. I know your latency isn't great, which I'm hoping is your problem, so whether it's upgrading your hardware or adjusting your gameplay to compensate for a slower connection, Thaddius was a problem again this week. Let's look at how you did relative to Leigh in the parses for Thaddius (you two were neck and neck over the full raid, so she's the perfect comparison).

Try 1, you were up the full time, but your effective heal was 1/3 of hers. You also put up 0 DPS.

Try 2, you were only up 75% of the time, but your effective heal was about 1/2 of hers for the time you were . You put in a couple DPS hits for 15k total.

What this looks like to me is that you were either so focused on your charges that you didn't do anything else, or you just weren't trying very hard. Yes, Thaddius is not a healing intensive fight. But you should never be sitting around... Look at me on the first try. I was top on the heal charts and still put out 300k damage by spamming ungeared, unspecced attacks when the raid didn't need heals. We bring 7 healers to raid. 7 healers x 300k damage is over 2 million, or equivalent to having an additional full-DPS person present. I need my healers to be contributing in ways like this.

So ask yourself if you're serious about wanting to be a part of this guild. If the answer is yes, you'll get more chances to show us that's the case. But if you don't prove it in your performance, we're going to have a problem.

U still need to improve on healing

primistic — Mon, 05/11/2009 - 00:04

Crom,

From the parses, i noticed a few things..

1) Why are u dpsing Thaddius with Hurricane, AOE? Shouldn't it be a single target dps? If you want to dps the boss if healing is not intensive, you should wrath, moonfire and SPAM Wild Growth whenever it is up. You should be able to deal considerable damage and healing at same time instead of just 15k.

2) From the overall healing, you were using Regrowth x 350 and Nourish x 40. Why are you using 2 kinds of direct heals? And your Glyphs are [Glyph of Nourish], [Glyph of Regrowth] and [Glyph of Lifebloom] Since you are using more Regrowth than Nourish, use a different Glyph like [Glyph of Innervate] or [Glyph of Wild Growth]

For me, I use Healing Touch only and I don't use Nourish or Regrowth, whereas Star use mainly Regrowth and not Healing Touch or Nourish. And the 2 of us just spammed Wild Growth, Lifebloom and Rejuv..

Do think about it and hope u can improve.

Resto Druids Unite.

cromi — Sat, 05/09/2009 - 22:01

I am deciding to be proactive for once. Using the suggestions from this past week Thanks for all the help and critiquing of my healing spec. I think it worked much better, and allowed for a better rotation of heals. here are the parses for the raid. If there is anything else that you think i need to work on then please tell me.

Before you start i would like to say that I am still working on getting the rotation of my swiftmend correctly after cooldown.

Going off of prims advice and the chaos that was my talent build during 3.1 and blizz decided to redo all talent points about 6 times causing me to become disoriented, I felt it was time for me to give another look at my talent point build and make some changes. I grabbed living seed, and tranquil spirit with the extra tp. Any suggestions?

Hi Crom,   Totally miss this

primistic — Mon, 05/04/2009 - 00:27

Hi Crom,

Totally miss this post, or else I would have post much earlier too.

I agree with Star. Imp Tranq is not really that important and Living Seed definitely goes hand-in-hand with direct heals.

For my healing spec, as what Star mentioned, I go a whole new different way which I believe a lot of druids will not want to consider.. Healing Touch.

With Naturalist, Empowered Touch and Glyph of Healing Touch, HT has never been so fast before. It is a 1sec cast. And with my haste items, it is now 0.76sec cast. In a raid fully buffed with Shamans, my cast is 0.68secs of 6k heal/9k crit heals.

For my spec, i only use HT, WG and LB. But this spec is very mana-intensed because of HT, so I normally use it when tank needs big heals or Garreth shouts "HEAL ***** HEAL *******!!! " Otherwise, i will just spam WG and LB. I'm still trying to fine-tune on this spec with mana reg problems.

As for your spec, Star has already pointed out his view. I would like to give my 2cents worth. I think you don't really need Natural Perfection & Revitalize. Revitalize only have 15% chance of proc and how much can 8energy, 4rage, 16runic help the raid? I can only say both Natural Perfection & Revitalize are something GOOD TO HAVE, but not a MUST HAVE talent. You can save a lot of talent points for others too.

cromi's picture

That is awesome. Using HT

cromi — Mon, 05/04/2009 - 08:30

That is awesome. Using HT like that turns you into a hybrid of a disc or pally. A holy priest. And a resto shammy. Are you using the ht glyph?, with it though i wouldn't think you would because it nerfs it too much i would think.

I will definantly look into my talent points and do the math on my revitalize. I always considered it good for raid because im giving a help to dks, and wars and rogues. But if i can do without it and maximize my heals then there is no reason for me keeping it. Thanks for telling me that.

Yes, I'm using Glyph of HT.

primistic — Mon, 05/04/2009 - 08:50

Yes, I'm using Glyph of HT.  Although the glyph nerf the healing amount, but Empowered Touch increase the healing amount by 40% more, thus somehow balance it.

cromi's picture

So does that glyph cut the

cromi — Mon, 05/04/2009 - 15:12

So does that glyph cut the base of its heals? And then your empowered touch would increase by that base or by the amount you have with the glyph? Because if ht heals for about 4500 in its regular state and then its decreased to 2250. then you increase that by 40% then it ends up being more powerful than nourish without hots up on the target. and if you use that then it becomes a pretty awesome spell even if you dont take the thought that it could go up from added when regular spell is by 40. then not much changes and you just cut much of the druids issue with ht with that glyph. When i first saw that they had that glyph i thought they were just doing it as a jk, but i can see how actually used in your arsenal it makes ht a viable option. It becomes fast and extremely effective. Though as you said above you probably oom faster.

parses.

Thanks for putting these up. I studied them for a while and got a great idea for a spell, and something that i need to grab before going into a raid.

starstalker's picture

Some notes about those

starstalker — Sat, 05/02/2009 - 23:33

Some notes about those parses:

1) Prim is specced and Glyphed into an interesting HT build, so his casts will differ greatly from my own, but he makes it work.

2) For trash, I generally regrowth+rejuve all the tanks, then WG the raid whether or not they have taken damage already. Heavy on mana, but thats why we bring mages =). Since the LB changes, I generally don't use rolling lifeblooms to tank heal anymore.

3)Consider the order you cast your spells. If you're going to hot up a tank with regrowth and rejuve, always cast regrowth first instead of rejuve. When you cast regrowth first, the GCD will already be up by the time the spell is finished casting, allowing you to get off a rejuve instantly, where if you cast rejuve first, you have to wait the 1.5s for the GCD to come around, THEN start casting your 2.5s regrowth. The difference is getting 2 heals landed in 2.5s, or getting 2 heals landed in 4s. Doing it with regrowth first allows you to get in an extra swiftmend, or even cast a full on Nourish, in the same amount of time. This is in addition to possibly getting a HoT tick,  allowing you to push more HPS, which is why people bring you to raids in the first place. =)

4) For the fights mori linked, the Vezax fight, while still being among the top healing, isn't something you should read into. Having no mana regen greatly changed how I heal. Mimiron, however, is a great example of having to use virtually everything in my arsenal. WG G5 during the heatwave phase, Nourish spamming the tanks in other phases, etc.

5) If you're going to nourish spam, make sure you start out with a regrowth as your first cast (unless the heal really needs to land that .5 sec sooner). Nourish gains a bonus to the amount healed for having a hot on the target, and since regrowth is your longest lasting hot, its the most mana efficient way to increase your healing. Also, since you have that hot ticking, you could also be spamming switftmend (for me, nourish might average 5k, but swiftmend will average 8k). Try and have swiftmend on cd as much as you can, its something I still need to work on.

There are some fights where rejuve spamming is godly. Especially fights where the raid takes constant, sustained damage, like Saph in Naxx. Other fights like Maly require group heals, but don't need to be instant (WG works perfectly). Still other fights require heals to have landed yesterday (like mimiron), in which case Nourish (or HT if thats your thing) ais ideal. Its all about using the correct tools in the correct situations.

Im going to check out prims

cromi — Sun, 05/03/2009 - 00:05

Im going to check out prims build. I dont use healing touch unless i am on a boss like grobbulus or i time it right on patchwerks special ability. I just want to know how you can pull off such an odd style for a primarily fast casting class.

I understand number 2 fully and that is generally what i try to do, but number 3 is genius. I didnt think to put those like that for my healing. I dont think i would have thought of that for anything else. swiftmending is something i need to also get better at. I used to do it really well. I think just because swiftmend is a spell that is my only instant cast i am more reluctant to use it because if i dont have it, then that is the last lifeland of defense for tank. Now that i am raiding with more competent people(i hope so at least)  and a great set of healers that i can begin to get out of my safety lines(like taking imp tranq so i have it on every fight in case i need it) and get into actually healing intuitively.

I am working on number 5 more now. I kind of came to that conclussion a week or two ago. and am just working on taking that concept and perfecting it so that it becomes more habit. I did not think to use swiftmend that way. I just used to put up my rejuv and then put up a swiftmend for quick heals. I'll try that tommorow if i get into an instance.

Thanks for the advice. : ). The more you critique me the more i learn to work at those things.

Torvo's picture

Thanks Mori, Star... Crom's

Torvo — Sun, 05/03/2009 - 10:02

Thanks Mori, Star... Crom's got a good attitude and shows up consistently, so I'm interested in working with him to see if his game skills get to where we want to see them.Crom -- I'll be interested to see how your heals improve with their suggestions. A couple of my own:

First, get rid of the attitude that you have to do it all by yourself. You know the fights, so you should know when the big heals are needed, and not using your full arsenal because you're worried about one of the other healers screwing up will just end up lowering your output. We have good healers who can take care of themselves, and good tanks who have more than a few tricks up their sleeves to cover the occasional big crit or unexpected damage. You can think of yourself as the Kobe of healing, but unlike him you don't have to do it all by yourself. Trust your teammates.

Second, drop the safety lines. If you have something that's ineffective for your best possible output just because it makes you comfortable, switch to the optimal setup. Optimal = best, and doing the best heals possible should be all the safety net you need.

cromi's picture

That is probably the best

cromi — Sun, 05/03/2009 - 16:51

That is probably the best thing about me raiding with the 25! is that it is great to have other healers around who i can trust. And then it turns into not me healing but me putting out heals to not let you guys down during the raid. I got rid of my imp tranq because of this and my glyph of rebirth so i can use glyph of wg. Then it comes down to me trying to fill any roll that the raid wants me to play.

I dont think of myself as the kobe of heals. But a mixture of kobe and lebron. Because Lebron can actually give an assist. I also posses the ego of both too.

moriella's picture

rejuv and WG

moriella — Sat, 05/02/2009 - 18:09

looks like thats pretty much all he casts.  Looking at other druids parses (starshift, katie, prim)  it looks VERY different.

cromi's picture

Thanks for the input.

cromi — Sat, 05/02/2009 - 18:36

I dont like to make excuses for things but i had a major lag problem today, for reasons i showed below, and i overcompensated with it by using rejuv. I also used wg more because that is a good spell for those heals. most times I try to spread it out and use a spell like regrowth on the tanks. Then use nourish when i need direct heals on them or quick heals on other people. Do you have the parses for starshift, kati, and prim so i can have a good indicator of their spells?

Torvo's picture

Here's the 5-2 parses

Torvo — Sat, 05/02/2009 - 17:00

http://wowwebstats.com/b5mcomr3owyig

Druids, can you provide him with some feedback? How's he doing relative to his gear, and what can he be working on? Crom has been consistent with his attendance and positive attitude, so I'd like to see more activity on his app (including from you, Crom! It's up to you to keep this thing going!!)

cromi's picture

Thanks for the parses. Though

cromi — Sat, 05/02/2009 - 17:22

Thanks for the parses. Though i wish i could have been on for more than 25% of the raid(stupid sats). After we got done with raid i logged out and found that vista had once again been downloading something without my knowlegde and after it got done i had no issues with the lag.

Torvo's picture

Fix that.

Torvo — Sun, 05/03/2009 - 09:39

Whether it's turning off automatic updates or control+alt+deleting before a boss fight to kill things on the process tab that are consuming significant memory, your lag was a problem - especially on Thaddius. I was worried it was behavioral, so it's a bit of a relief to know it was just your system -- but there are fights where being slow will kill you. Thaddius, Heigan, Malygos all come to mind.

Letting your system affect your performance week-in, week-out is the same as playing like crap, since the result is the same. Fortunately yours is free and easy to fix (though if an auto-update made you lag that bad you might want to invest in more RAM anyway), so don't let it come up again.
