Chrislow has a choice to make..

Hey guys! Just like the title says i have a very important choice i need to make. Just today my readiness NCO (and my platoon sergeant rolled into one) gave me a call and said that in a week and a half, my stop-loss will be lifted due to a new stop-loss policy (thanks Obama). On that day, i'll have a choice, a new contract that I need to sign.
First choice is to stay for mobilization and deploy to Afghanistan with my boys, at the tail end of this deal is a 10,000 dollar bonus along with 500/mo tacked on to my paycheck for good measure.
The second choice obviously is take my honorable discharge, and go about my life in relative comfort, continue working the job I hate, while all of my best friends are overseas. Without me. Medical school is again an option.
Any thoughts? Hard choice

I agree with Scaron. I've
Noidling — Thu, 04/30/2009 - 20:07I agree with Scaron. I've been to Afghanistan, and will be going again in roughly a year. The first time, it was only 30ish guys from my unit filling holes in a unit from Nevada. We tended to get the fuzzy end of the lollipop as scabs, and it was a rough year. The thing that got me through that year was being deployed with some of my best friends, Bluetouguyss among them. I would see how many of those friends of yours are going, and ask yourself if they will keep you going through the rough spots, and if you might be the one to squeak them through the rough spots. The money is a great thing, but it gets spent very quickly.
Assuming your friends got the
Scaron — Wed, 04/08/2009 - 10:53Assuming your friends got the same deal you did (and thus have the same hard choice to make as you do), do you know what their plans are?
I don't know if you have a way to get that information easily, but if I were deciding whether to go on such a trip, I'd want to know for sure that my best friends were going to be there with me like I thought they would.
Not telling you what to do...only what information I'd want if I were in your position.
I agree with kati, sounds
Grasen — Tue, 04/07/2009 - 18:15I agree with kati, sounds to me that you feel that obligalation to go with your squad, Follow your heart man, if it leads you to afganastan then so be it, just dont stay and hate yourself forever for it.
It almost sounds like you've
