I'm down and out for a bit
broptimus — Sat, 04/18/2009 - 19:58
So, today while in Torvo's 25 naxx, i got a randy blue screen error. I come back, its fine for another hour. It blue screens again, and just before it blue screens i can see a wow error about loading something in stratholme. I restart, and i come back again. This time when i load up wow, i get an error logging into my toon. something about not finding something else.. And from then on out I couldn't even load up wow without getting some sort of error. So, I decided to try to use the wow repair tool. It does its thing and says, the volume is to badly damaged, you will need to reinstall. Now i'm like GG ? So i uninstall, delete the wow folder. I go to install wow from the WoTLK DVD. Upon getting to 5% it gives an error about reading the disc. (the disk has no scratches, and obviously i used it to install wrath...) So then it blue screens me after i hit ok to exit. Then i got a looping blue screen untill i unplugged the power cord. Upon starting up again, i got that screen that asks you to start in safe mode last known good config or nomal. I hit last known , and when it loads up it says it needs to check my drive for stability. it does its thing, finds a few things wrong. So it restarts again after that check, and when i get in, everything is reset. My xfire didn't remember shit and reset all settings, and the same with vent (meaning i need ip and port and that pass i had(not astley)...)
Now, i'm really fricking mad. I think patch 3.1 altered my windows files because my whole computer is seriously f&&ked right now. I can't download and install anything (tried to update my graphics driver). This is really aggrevating and blizzard has no answers. I found out that 1000+ other people are having this exact problem with patch 3.1. I CANNOT re-install wow. Every time i move anything that has to do with wow in any way, even dl'ing from the site, it just blue screens me.
I think i have to re-install windows. Retarded.

danglez computer/wow issues
moriella — Thu, 04/23/2009 - 17:49Keep In Mind
Dangly — Thu, 04/23/2009 - 17:11Keep in mind that there is nothing "exact" about what you just described. While there may be other people experiencing "similar" issues, you still have to keep an open mind to the fact that it may be a problem on your end. Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows? Which version of Windows? How much RAM do you have? Just give me your specs and maybe I can better help you.
I'd also like to take a look at your actual BSOD, if you don't know how to do this, here ya go:
Right click "My Computer" and select "Properties", then the advanced tab. Under startup and recovery, click settings and uncheck the box that says automatically restart. Click ok/apply/ok and reboot the computer. The next time the computer crashes you will see a BSOD that you can read. Take a picture of it and post it in here so we can look at it. Sometimes there is usefull info that will help to debug your situation.
However, if you don't wanna do all that, here's what I would do initially. (in the following order)
1) Make sure that WoW is copmpletely uninstalled from your computer(i.e. go check Program Files and make sure it's gone)
2) Update video/sound drivers. Also, if your copy of Windows is a legit copy, then make sure it has the latest updates and service packs.
3) Try reinstalling wow now. If it still blue screens on you, then UNPLUG YOUR CPU FROM THE WALL and open it up. Reseat your RAM cards, but while you have them out, check them for burn marks. Also, give the rest your computer a good look over for anything out of the ordinary.
4) Try installing wow again. If it blue screens, by now you should really be taking a picture of that BSOD that you are getting and sending it to me, so I can take a gander.
5) Save your shit, and reinstall windows. While this may seem to be an easy fix, I doubt it will actually solve the problem. I can assure you that it will either magically fix the problem or inevitably postpone the problem.
6) Google is your friend. Use it.
hard drive
moriella — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 08:17I agree, even tho lots of ppl are reporting it, it sounds exactly like hd/ram/ or i/o bus on MB going bad. Wonder if wow is doing something odd with the bus during install
2 possiblities come to mind :
Ghli — Sat, 04/18/2009 - 20:012 possiblities come to mind : Ram is corrupted, or your hard drive is about to crash or is crashing now. These things don't happen all the time, but can happen.
how is it a coincidence that
broptimus — Sat, 04/18/2009 - 20:06how is it a coincidence that it happens to 1000+ other people..? after 1 patch.
BTW i think i fixed it, (not the wow crashing part)
I havn't crashed again, and i can run any other game perfectly fine like before, but that download + install thing isn't working still.
Copy all the files off the
garreth — Sat, 04/18/2009 - 20:28Copy all the files off the WoW disk to a folder on your desktop and install from there.
tried this, half way through
broptimus — Sat, 04/18/2009 - 20:36tried this, half way through it says somethings corrupted and then blue screens.
i think i'm just going to re-install windows.
Odd
Stryyfe — Thu, 04/23/2009 - 14:08This is actually quite interesting. My younger Brother installed the latest patch and then couln't get WoW to start. He'd go to the browser and hit the play button and then nothing would happen. no blue screens or anything just a failure to load.
Dunno if it's in any way related but that is some F R E A K Y coincidence no? 0_o
