Can anyone tell me how something works? For talents and abilities that heal when damage is taken, how is it calculated?
Say someone has 10k HP, and they have a proc from my [Living Seed] on them. Let say the proc will heal 2000 when it goes off. Now, when the target is going to get hit for 7000, does the proc go off before the damage is applied, making them get hit for 5000, or will it proc after damage is applied, letting the target get hit for 7000 and then healing 2000?
Now, what happens when the hit will kill a player? Lets say the player with 10hp is going to take an 11k hit. Does the player take the entire hit, and dies, even though the proc from my living seed would have saved them (healing for 2000)? Or does it take into effect the 2000 healing they would get, before the entire damage amount is applied.
Does my question make sense?

I looked into this a few weeks ago because
Darthon — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 20:42I looked into this a few weeks ago because I was curious with this as well. I spent a couple minutes going through the text and saw that living seed proc'd on my target, the player was killed and it reported an overkill of I think 200 or something and I could not find where the effect of living seed happened. It just died with the player.
Its reactive healing, the dmg
Prime8 — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 15:48Its reactive healing, the dmg is counted first, then the heal. For things like priest's PWS it works differently. The key is reactive heal vs absorbtion.

starstalker — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 14:34I guess the question also applies to a Shaman's earth shield, would it follow the same mechanic?
For Earth Shield
Torvo — Tue, 04/21/2009 - 13:13It reacts to the attack by casting an instant heal on the target when it procs. The logic tree looks something like:
-Enemy attacks
-Determine if tank is hit, parries, dodges, etc (continue if tanks is hit)
-Tank gets hit
-Tank takes damage
-Determine if Earth Shield procs in reaction to taking damage
-Earth Shield reduces casting/channeling time lost, gives instant heal, loses a charge
Because the instant heals proc ON the tank taking damage, he has to take that damage before they can assign their healing.
One thing I don't know for sure is if this applies to parry/dodge as well as hit. I'm inclined to say no for dodge, maybe for parry, but that's just a guess.
Pretty sure it works the same way for other heal procs.
