Step 5: Installing and Configuring Sound / Ventrilo
Download Ventrilo
Go ahead and download ventrilo to your desktop for now.
Install Ventrilo normally following instructions
Reconfigure Wine
Applications -> Wine -> winecfg
Select “Audio” tab.
Change “Audio” from
Turn on Emulation (at the bottom).
Configure Sound
Right-click on sound button at top right of screen and choose “Options”.
Select “More Options” and check them all. This will enable “Capture” (or your microphone) and other random options you didn’t even know you needed.
Open Ventrilo
Choose “Setup”.
Turn off any and all direct-sound options. Let it choose the default.
Test your microphone. If you have forgotten to enable Capture previously, this will not function.
GARRETH IS GONNA REWRITE THIS PAGE!!!! (though he might not know it yet)
He ran me all over Ubuntu making changes and I couldn’t keep track of half of them. Whatever they were, they worked though.
P.S. The reason we didn't really 'configure' anything is because Linux generally tracks and installs all sound cards by default during the initial install. if Linux did not track and install yours, might I recommend google.com?
