Sounds like what I had. It took me 6 weeks of intensive scrubbing (mixed in with giving up for days at a time) before I finally caved and spent $25 on software that could remove it. Sounds a lot like Vundo/Virtumondo, which is one of the more obnoxious viruses I've ever encountered. It even did something that caused my computer to bluescreen when I tried to reformat and start over from scratch.

If you are ok with spending the $25, the software I bought and used is called Exterminate It. I generally don't advocate buying this kind of stuff on principal, but in the few months I've been using it, it really seems to be legit, and not some kind of ransomware. It covers everything from wayward DLLs to registry adjustments and all sorts of other things hackers program viruses to fuck you up with. Plus, this particular virus was wasting several hours of my time per week in having to go back in, remove files, reset registry keys, etc... By the time I caved and bought it, I was probably close to 40 hours sunk. I like to think my time's more valuable than <$1/hour.

The catch would obviously be getting it installed if you can't get past the Windows screen. First try Last Known Good Configuration. If that doesn't work, go with Safe Mode. Do this by pressing F8 repeatedly as soon as your computer powers on. It will take you to the boot menu where you can pick an option. If you can get into safe mode with networking, you should be able to do some basic cleaning up. You probably won't be able to install Exterminate It (or something similar) here, but you can use a free utility like hijackthis and a process identifier site like neuber.com to identify what's booting when you first launch your computer and remove the offending virus-related files.

That should at least buy you enough time to install something powerful to wipe the crap out at its root. Hope this helps... Check back in and let me know how your progress is coming along. Would love to help you get up and running in time for Saturday!

Well, I know that warlock healers are the best there is but I usually spec DPS.  However, I am willing to adapt.  My band-aids are top quality and I can apply them with blue or pink ribbons depending on who I am healing.  :)  Hey Torvo, should bluetouguyss get the blue or pink ribbons?
