FRAPS

I want to make movies again but fraps uses 1gig of disk space per minute of recording time. Is there a convenient way to make this smaller?

Use WeGame, use their
garreth — Wed, 08/19/2009 - 16:04Use WeGame, use their uploader and link a few to us. I'd like to watch you raid, at least for some good feedback. I think it's a great idea.
Are you low on HD space?
Agoney — Tue, 08/18/2009 - 06:32Are you low on HD space? 1gb/min isnt bad considering once you encode it'll be in the 200-500mb range. Once it's finished and encoded you just delete your source files. IMO its better to work with your hi quality output files.. should you choose to resize or whatever then you can use avi synth or some app that makes use of it.
Never capture more then 30 frames/sec (i think NTSC is like 29.97 f/s). You can get away with whatever the euro standard is too (I think like 25?). Your game will lock in at whatever you capture at though.. (i never had any problem on bosses with my fps locked @ 30ish).
encoding
Vitriola — Tue, 08/18/2009 - 07:32Good tips. No, I am not low on disk space. I even have a whole and separate drive that can thrash away writing it all down completely separate from the read/write work of the game. That plus a quad core should make things go smoothly.
Thanks for the advice!
vit, you still have a ways
Grasen — Mon, 08/17/2009 - 17:37vit, you still have a ways to go as a lock and raider, I know i'm not saying anything here you dont already know,
I would suggust useing your time to work on that before diveing into movies,
hmmm
Vitriola — Tue, 08/18/2009 - 05:46I was wanting to do this so that I could send video of raids to others and get constructive input on how I can improve, but thanks for the shot anyway. :(
not a bad idea at all
Grasen — Wed, 08/19/2009 - 14:06not a bad idea at all actually, i was worried makeing vids would take away from the focus of your game play.
A legitimite concern but
Vitriola — Wed, 08/19/2009 - 16:56A legitimite concern but I know that I need to sharpen my game. I have gotten my gear improved. I have gotten my UI improved. I have gotten a good rotation that is very different from what I did up until I applied. I have been thinking about this a lot. In short, I might well be spending too much time thinking about the rotation and damage meters that I am not leaving enough brain cycles for everything else. That is what I am currently looking into.
Perhaps, when I get the vids working, you could take a peek and let me know what you think. :)
Hugs to aidin and the kids!
Making FAFPS vid smaller
Nuitarin — Mon, 08/17/2009 - 15:40I think you can also reduce the size of the FRAPS files by reducing your ingame resolution (if you can live with that) and capturing the video at 1/2 size (a setting in FRAPS).
You might be able to capture at a lower fps as well. Maybe try 20 fps instead of 25 or 29.97 or whatever you capture at.
This, and get a second cheap
Knoppix (not verified) — Mon, 08/17/2009 - 17:41This, and get a second cheap HDD to dump data to.
If you have a moderately
garreth — Mon, 08/17/2009 - 15:18If you have a moderately powerful machine, I recommend WeGame (www.wegame.com). WeGame compresses on the fly at a small hit to system performance. The only caveat is that you won't be able to edit the resulting files in Premiere or FinalCut.
