Progress & Questions
Omnisiah — Sun, 03/21/2010 - 00:34
Ok, I've bumped up my gear considerably. Sockets are all filled and things are mostly enchanted. Here is a link to my Character, let me know what more I can do before I start raiding.
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Gorgonnash&cn=Odinstein
Now, My hit rating is a little high at the moment, some gear bumped it up pretty high, so Ill probably put +20 Agi gems in place of the +10 Agi, +10 Hit gems that I have in some of the gear.
There are a couple of enchants that I have a couple of questions on.
What is better for my Legs:
Frosthide Leg Armor (+55 Sta, +22 Agi)
or
Icescale Leg Armor (+75 AttPow, +22 Crit)
What is better for 1H Weapons:
Enchant Weapon - Superior Potency (+65 AttPow)
or
Enchant Weapon - Exceptional Agility (+26 Agi)
Now, I also have some questions on some abilities I rarely or never use while soloing. Ive heard one of them mentioned on other sites like The Hunter's Union, but not much.
1. Feign Death. I heard mention of its use in Raids to drop your threat level if you think you are going to Pull aggro. But not really much info about how to use it Properly
2. Viper Sting
3. Tranq Shot
4. Scorpid Sting
5. Disengage
Now, to switch over to more general things. I did install the Guild AddOns, but I have no idea how any of them are used. Do we have any guides or should I just rely on the information the AddOn creators have out there?
Also, I still haven't been on a Raid, I signed up for Tomorrow's Malt Raid, but I don't know exactly how the organization works for getting in, do you just show up online at the right time and someone has a list? Am I actually ready or close enough to being ready?
Thanks for all the help so far.

I'd like to see more hunter
Atar — Mon, 03/22/2010 - 07:26I'd like to see more hunter input here. With time and a lot of work we could make a solid raider out of Omnisiah if he's interested.
Great! I am totally
Omnisiah — Wed, 03/24/2010 - 20:35Great! I am totally interested. Once I hit that 80 mark for the first time it was like my eyes were opened!
His gear is looking better.
Derchlon — Mon, 03/22/2010 - 08:46His gear is looking better. Get your self some emblem boots, a nice rep ring from ICC, and a new chest.
Telent tree looks good. Your 80 wolf has no pet talents. You should fix that.
Play around with www.femaledwarf.com and that will help you get the most out of your dps. It can help you plan gear, set up a shot priority, and tells you just how much dps each point of itemization is. It is quite the handy tool.
Cool, Ill look into that. My
Omnisiah — Wed, 03/24/2010 - 20:38Cool, Ill look into that. My boots are way better than I had before, I had some crazy boots that mostly were a boost to my intellect and no Agi before for some reason.
My wolf has talents for sure, there is some glitch going on with the Armory though, I even went in and cleared his talents and redid them and it still hasnt shown up. I had to enter all my stuff manually into femaledwarf.com I had played around with the Excel sheet version, but the website is way easier to use.
Icescale Leg Armor (+75
Ghli — Sun, 03/21/2010 - 02:42Icescale Leg Armor (+75 AttPow, +22 Crit) is better for you. Frosthide Leg Armor (+55 Sta, +22 Agi) is intended for tanks.
Enchant Weapon - Exceptional Agility (+26 Agi) is generally better if you insist on only using 1H weapons. However, with hunters now having access to staffs, getting a 2H weapon with 110 AP is better.
Feign Death is used for, well, dropping all your threat. Use it anytime if you think you will surpass the tank in threat. There is no wrong time to use it really, unless your intent is to inspect the floor.
Viper Sting is used when you want to leech mana from the target that you are facing. Only one problem: not all mobs have mana to leech from. However, if you time a viper sting with the usage of aspect of the viper, you will stay in less time in viper, and go back to aspect of the hawk faster.
Tranq shot is used when a mob is enraged, or you need to dispell some buff off that mob. Again, no right or wrong time to use it. Use it when it's necessary.
Scorpid sting is used when you need to make a mob that has this debuff miss 3% whatever that mob has targeted. 3% might not make a difference much to you as a hunter, but it's a big deal for tanks and healers to have some kind of this debuff on a boss, be it from a hunter or a boomkin. Generally, you will not use it if your raid/party has boomkin that uses insect swarm (same buff for the both of you, but insect swarm has a DoT component) unless the boomkin dies. Use Serpent sting for dps instead.
Disengage is, well, a get away ability. There's no right or wrong time to use it. It becomes a choice of: do I want to move forward, left, or right to get out fire/void zones/etc. or use disengage to move backwards.
If you're going to drop hit, start dropping it by swapping your Sphere of Red Dragon's Blood for a Mirror of Truth by converting triumph->conq->valor-> heroism badges. And WHY are you using a tanking gun in the first place? You should have saved your gold from buying that. and picked up any ranged weapon from any of the ICC instances. You should as well pick up the triumph badge helm, ring, craft the ToC bracers, and some other things as well.
For the guild pack, most of the documentation is provided by the addon authors.
As far as you being ready for raiding, put it this way... people have raided before with more inferior gear that what you have on. As long you're working towards getting rep to buy your helm and shoulder enchants, you should be perfectly fine doing mAlt runs.(Hint: go grab your Knights of the Ebon Blade tabbard while you do heroics for your helm enchant).
Wow, lots of good info in
Omnisiah — Wed, 03/24/2010 - 20:42Wow, lots of good info in here. Its funny I actually grabbed the Tabard in game while you were posting this.
Is the best way to get my rep up to get the shoulder enchants just doing the quests?
Regarding the weapon & other random thoughts.
Asc2217 — Sun, 03/21/2010 - 13:58According to spreadsheets, using your tanking weapon over a ilvl 232 ICC heroic weapon (I used Felglacier Bolter as a comparison) nets a 200 dps loss with raid buffs (which is about a 3% difference). The base dps is nice, but since for MM hunters most of your dps is instant cast shots, a slow weapon is actually preferred since many of your shots are based on weapon damage. So yes! Go get yourself a new weapon, its a good upgrade.
Also you're not really over hit cap. You're just over 8% which is a good place to be.
As Ghli said, replace your blue ring with the badge one. Get rid of Sphere of Red Dragon's Blood, if you have the gold, I recommend you actually buy a Greatness Card: Agility (even though its around 5k still). Get the triumph badge helm, as it has a good breakdown of stats for a hunter (ap/crit/armor pen gear is the ideal stat breakdown for you). You'll lose alot of hit doing this, so also go for Orca Hunter's Harpoon or whatever it's called from the first boss in H hor, and get 110 AP to that weapon as an enchant.
Have you been saving frost badges? If so how many do you have?
only like 35 so far. When I
Omnisiah — Wed, 03/24/2010 - 20:43only like 35 so far.
When I started doing Randoms back on my old server I was pretty much clueless, I wasted a bunch of my badges on stuff Ive already replaced.
