I'll try hard not to make it a permanent goodbye...
chaca — Sun, 01/02/2011 - 12:29
Well, it is hard for me to write this cuz I really thought, when I joined this guild, that my toons found a permanent home and that I will never stop playing this game. However, I think that unthinkable time a year ago has just arrived.
This is the situation: First of all, right now I have an execute position in an BPO company here in my city that is gaining greater and greater responsibility as the company grows, which demands more and more time every day. Secondly, I’m trying to get a master degree in Marketing with emphasis on market and product strategy, which is demanding a lot of effort and, thus, time to make it right. Finally, I recently decided to, at last, commit to a serious relationship instead of just fooling around with girls, which, again, demands time to make it right.
When Salmon decided to stop raiding in November, I realized that just working and studying was hard enough and that I was kinda pushing it too hard on myself to be good on working, studying and WoW. Then, this girl appeared on my life. The way things are happening with her makes me feel that I wanna make it work and last.
So, listing these four important things that make me really happy (work, masters, new girl and WoW), and thinking deep into them, I have to admit I can only do three of them at a time if I wanna get the results I expect from them. Therefore, as hard as it was for me to admit it, it seems pretty obvious which one I have to abandon.
I wanna thank all of you that in some way shared this game with me. You made it so cool and entertaining, that it’s been a really tough decision to let it go now. For those 15 to 20 great, consistent and committed Salmon players that made its core during the year I played with you, I have special gratitude (you know who you guys and girls are). The most fun and the most memorable moments I had playing this game, I had ‘em with you and not necessarily raiding. Also, special thanks to Ataraxia cuz you worked your ass off to keep us together and enjoying our raid times, you are the best raid leader anyone could ever have. Most of you guys have me on FB, if not, drop me a PM and I’ll give you my e-mail address, if you wanna keep in touch.
As the title says, I’ll try to come back sooner or later to this game, cuz I wanna continue having the great times I had with you guys. If you made it through here, you are the man! This is a fucking long post ^^
Cheers and I wish you guys the best in your projects asnd lives.

I shouldn't make fun of this guy
Tankard — Sun, 09/19/2010 - 02:37
But I can't resist. This article is about a quadraplegic who "swam" the English channel:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100919/ap_on_re_eu/eu_france_amputee_swimmer
- He "swam" across? I would have thought he'd bobbed across.
- Why didn't he just use "specially designed prostheses" with a motor attached?
- Those dolphins were saying "WTF?" and "They're never going to believe this back at the pod."
- His book should have been called "I decided to live by doing shit that could easily kill me. Anyone want to part what's left of my pubic hair with a harpoon? Please kill me."
- Let's just hope that the exceptionally idiotic thing he did to himself that caused him to lose his limbs also fried all his sperm.

This Drupal thingy won't let me upload this gif, so to bypass that, here's a blog.

Looking for an External HD
Threerick — Sun, 08/22/2010 - 21:20
So, I'm looking into buying a 1 TB External Hard Drive and was wondering if there were any suggestions of which one to buy. Any good reviews on any brands of externals you guys have used or have before will be great. Some help choosing will be great, I don't feel like wasting money on buying an external and it breaking down with all my back ups in a couple of months.
Here are some that I have been looking at.
Fantom GDP1000EU GreenDrive External Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 16MB, eSATA, USB 2.0
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5086206&CatId=2429
This seemed to be a fairly solid one that I found at Tigerdirect. It's fairly cheap and seems to have some decent reviews.
Western Digital WDBAAF0010HBK My Book Essential External Hard Drive - 1TB, USB 2.0
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5255816&CatId=2421
This was originally my first pick but it seems that they had some poor reviews off the bat so i'm rethinking about this one.
If anyone has used any of these products or any other ones and feel like they want to share their experience with them, then that would be amazing.
Mice Mice Baby
saedo — Wed, 07/21/2010 - 16:40
So I had a question on the shoutbox a few days ago. I believe my mouse is dying, it just stops working randomly, but works again if I unplug and replug it. Then it's all fine and dandy again for 15 mins or a day or somewhere in between.
It kinda gives me false hope that everything's all fixed again, but it's making me think that maybe I should upgrade. I've always used cheap mice, 2-3 buttons, scroll wheel, cause this was one piece of hardware I didn't care about. Perhaps time to try something better with moar buttons!
So now I basically went to a Best Buy and took a look at what was out there, how they felt, and how far should I really splurge into this. I'll list the ones that caught my eye, tell me if you got any insight to any of these or others.
Logitech M500: Seems to be a good standard mice that's above the 3 button variety.
Logitech MX Wireless: This only caught my attention cause it's on sale atm. Advertised as a high powered wireless mouse, but at this price, maybe I should just dive into the gaming mice.
Logitech G500: Now it's the whole gaming mouse with 10 programmable buttons. Splurge worthy?
Razor DeathAdder 3500: It glows, but is it worth considering over the G500?
Razer Naga Laser MMO: How bout getting 17 whole buttons? This thing looks to have a whole damn keyboard at the tip of your thumb. Go go one handed playing for realz!
SteelSeries WoW MMO: 15 buttons here it appears and customized for WoW and all. That D button at the thumb looks interesting to use. But to get something specifically for WoW, or something more flexible for other stuff, or maybe this is flexible either way. How is it vs the Razer?
So, what do you think I should splurge on? Got any others worth mentioning?
Shihli possibly starting up something interesting (non-game related)
Shihli — Wed, 07/14/2010 - 22:22
So a few friends of mine have asked me why I don't start up a Twitter page or some such, in regards to what I know about the Energy industry - that is, oil refining, nuclear power, "green" power, that sort of thing.
Well, it got me to thinking - I don't have much to do nowadays apart from look for a job, work out, and play games. So I say ... why not?
The reason I make this post is simple. If I were to start up a Twitter feed or a blog of some kind, that would have facts, news stories, information, or anything pertaining to what's going on in the energy industry - be it from the VERY safe working history of nuclear power to the VERY bad business practices exercised by BP ...
Would any of you guys be interested in reading it?
Let me know your thoughts - I want to know that if I start something like this up, I'd actually have an audience.
For every reply I get to this little blog post, I'll edit my original post with a random movie quote tagged at the bottom. Totally ripping the idea off from Mavandon.
And now, for movie quotes! It's your job to find the movie it's from.
For Dragonspear: I always say a kiss on the hand might feel very good, but a diamond tiara lasts forever.
For Derchlon: No, it is not dangerous to confuse children with angels.
Deadliest Warrior: The Game - LF players
Shihli — Wed, 07/14/2010 - 10:37

So I recently picked this little gem up on the XBL Arcade. It'll only set you back $10, pretty cheapo considering the quality of the game you'll pick up.
At the moment there's 8 characters to play as - four "balanced" characters with good offense and defense, but slow movement (Spartan, Centurion, Samurai, and Knight), two "guerilla" characters with very good offense and movement speed but low defense (Ninja, Apache), and two "berserker" characters with very good offense and mediocre movement speed but mixed defenses (Viking, Pirate).
There's only five stages to play in, but each stage has semi-interactive elements (obstacles, things you can break, etc).
The gameplay itself is simple. You enter each fight with essentially four weapons (short-range, medium-range, long-range, and "special" which is used in your unblockable attack), as well as whatever armor your character has available. The combat system is fully 3-D and is relatively simple - you have a health bar but it's mostly a formality, as you'll only really be able to take 6-7 shots at most, with some fights ending in one blow. You have three basic melee attacks (high, middle, low) and each has varying effects. High attacks can decapitate an opponent (outright kill), middle attacks can damage or sever arms (disabling shields, medium-range weapons, and ranged weapons), and low attacks can damage or sever arms (slows down movement considerably).
Severed limbs do damage-over-time due to bleeding, as do two specific ranged weapons that are poisoned.
In short, if you liked the Bushido Blade game series, this game is a very, very natural step in the same direction. Plays fast, it's fun if not occasionally frustrating, and online game is decently stable if a bit laggy. Overall, it's definitely worth $10.
That said -
Who wants to play!
