Raid
Council dies. Tonight. No excuses. Come prepared and get ready to work your ass off.
We've had to do a lot of switching out in our BT raid and it's killing us. We need you in raid, all night. We are pushing extremely hard to get Illidan down and we can only accomplish this if everyone is on, prepared and knows the strat.
Keep up this intensity all the way through Illidan. I'm tired of not killing bosses! After not killing Azgalor this week, we really need to pick it up. See you all online.
LF1M is going back to Kael'thas with the help of members from the Hamfist raid. We'd like to see as many LF1M members as possible.
Loot will be handled by the top LF1M and top Hamfist point holders rolling. (ie Garreth and Warion have the most pally points in Hamfist and LF1M, respectively, so they would roll on the chest if they're the only ones interested)
Watch the vid and know your job please. We'll be booting people that are not prepared and replacing them with folks that did their homework.
Casecold's 2nd part of ZA unfortunately Casecold is working so Nrcoolj will take over for Friday.
A note about Shihli, Luchs, main toons, and raiding
Shihli — Thu, 03/06/2008 - 11:12
So last night, during some post-raid discussion, there were a few points that came to light that I want to address.
First off, hi - my name is Shihli. I am a * hunter *. Shihli is my main, and will continue to be my main for the forseeable (and unforseeable) future. I started playing this game in the fall of '04 (I think, might've been '05) during Thanksgiving break.
I have been trying to finish up MH/BT attunement on my ALT, Luchs, over the past month or so. He has the Vashj vial and, fortune permitting, will have an Al'ar kill tonite. Once Atar's raid has Kael down (or if we do more LF1Ham runs), I will be able to get his Kael vial.
Now, let me make this perfectly clear:
I am not now, nor will I ever, make my Shaman my MAIN toon. My MAIN toon is Shihli. The *ONLY* reason that I am pushing to attune my ALT, Luchs, is because we have had frequent healer shortages over the past few months, and I wish to have him available to help the raid in the event that should occur again.
It is NO DIFFERENT than the reason we attuned Pudolski (to help tank when we are down tanks, and to help tank tough trash packs like most of MH and Shahraz trash) or Disrupta (to help tank if one of our ferals had to miss a night). Hell, the only reason I MISSED our prior attunement runs back in December was because I was down in California, as well as figuring out if I was quitting the game or not.
I HAVE NO PLANS to switch toons. NONE. ZERO. NADA. I *ONLY* want to attune Luchs out of the interests of the raid and guild as a whole. Once Luchs gets his Al'ar and Kael'thas kills out of the way (as well as one Rage Winterchill kill), he will NOT be in a 25man raid AT ALL unless EXPLICITLY REQUESTED by Garreth, or by Atar on weekends when I am available to fill in spots for his raid.

NEXT STEP: KAEL'THAS. Starting reading, and congrats! You all deserve it!
I'd like to get all healers together for a round of "How to heal and use grid".
We'll be covering the following:
- Following the red dot
- When not to follow the red dot
- What the pink dot means
- Heal macros
- Mouseover cleansing
- What the green dot means
- Enchancing the range check (for vashj)
- Gear selection
- Pot rotation
- How to configure grid to do what you want (full names, health horizontal instead of vertical, etc)
- How to quickly split up a raid into healing "zones" per healer
If you're any type of healer, I'd really like to see you on. It's at 1pm in Shatt. It will be one of the rare times that we actually get all of a certain role together in a group and actually talk about the whats and hows of healing. Be on, have Grid installed and functional.
Positive Reinforcement vs Negative Punishment
garreth — Thu, 02/28/2008 - 10:59
I'll keep this short and sweet since I dont' have a lot of time, but I really want to get people's feedback on this.
Last night I was informed of the tactics used by another guild on Gorgonnash regarding Vashj. It wasn't a boss strat per se, but it was definitely raid related: Every time they'd wipe to Vashj, the raid leader would dock their raiders DKP. But not everyone. Only the healers. Ok, I'll let that sink in a bit.
One more time for good measure: If they wipe on Vashj, they dock dkp from only the healers. Oh, and they only bring six healers on this fight. We can all agree this is absolutely absurd. But people are sticking around and actually putting up with it.
This leads to some really interesting discussions of positive reinforcment vs negative punishment. That guild wants to succeed on a diffcult boss. They have 2 options
1) Reward improvements and acknowledge what people did right (positive reinforcement).
2) Punish and take away positive stimulus (dkp) for failure to improve. (negative punishment)
Choosing the second option in a game is almost Hitleresque when applied to the raid as a whole. But to dole it out upon a small and absolutely essential contingent of your team for no other reason than you don't play that role (the raid leaders/officers are all tanks/dps), is downright sick.
And those that sticking around are effectively the raid whipping boys. How do people put up with this? Does a group of people need a scapegoat to their own problems so bad that they'll completely oppressed a subsection of their fellow raiders? Didn't the Nazis do something like this?
