Moving to Ubuntu Linux
garreth — Thu, 05/01/2008 - 09:31
I've been screwing around with Linux on and off again for the last three years and I think it's time I take the plunge with Ubuntu 8 and it's braindead-easy installer. There are really only TWO things that completely required for me to switch 100%:
- Will it run full Photoshop CS3?
- Will it run WoW (and some derivation of WoWAceUpdater)?
Mistrbook, I know that you're a linux geek and you've at least had wow and an addon updater running for the last few months. Hit me with some feedback.
One Man's Trash...
Vulk — Tue, 04/29/2008 - 13:21
You know what they say. One man's trash is another man's treasure, but sometimes I'm left wondering what some guys see in our trash.
This week is large trash pickup which pretty much means just that, we can put all the large trash on the side of the street we want and they will take it away. I spent the better part of Saturday and Sunday taking out almost half a ton of crap. Including 3 old broken TVs that were just taking up space.
People come and go and take the usual stuff, a piece of plywood that was part of an old bed frame, a old rusty steel shelf and various other stuff that I can think of uses for. But a couple things have surprised me and left me perplexed as to what they could need some of this stuff for.
The first thing that got me curious is I saw a a family come and sift through our trash, 3 children and all. I figured they would just take the TVs but no. What they started doing was hacking the power cords of all the electronics with crowbars. What they needed just the power cords for I don't know. The next thing that got my attention was some banging I heard about an hour ago so I looked outside. I saw some guy hitting the back of one of the TVs with a hammer. He was reckless enough brake the tube letting out all the gas. he did the same thing to each TV. Apparently he too was after the wires because all he did was remove the wires and the projection device that sits at the back of the tube but left all the circuitry inside the TV.
So I'm wondering what people need with all this wiring. I was talking to my neighbor and brought this up. He said it had something to do with them needing the copper to make meth. Somehow I don't think this is the case but It has served to fuel my curiosity on this matter.
What we do at 3am

Ardea, Dufe and I were getting bored ganking level 61s in Helfire at about 3am Sunday morning. So we did the next logical thing and kited the giant Pit Commander you see at the portal all the way to Honor Hold. I was tanking in my plate healing gear, Ardea was healing on the fly and Dufe was clearing trash mobs. He does a rain of fire that hits for about 55,000 damage so you have to keep moving or it will gib you. About halfway to Honor Hold he went OOM though, lol!
After releasing him in Honor Hold:
He ran around and squished Wiggles though :(
Just saved a bnch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO =D

Chronicles of Tuque - Path of Holy

So I spec'd Holy. Full out holy down to, um, well as much of that Int -> Healing talent I can get atm. Here's some rambling thoughts of my experience so far.
Killing is definitely slower. Though, I kinda find there's less downtime. Don't have to sit and drink as much. Also taking on mobs many levels above me seems a bit more dangerous.
I also went through a ZF run. Hmm at this level I gotta say healing is boring. lol People aren't taking damage fast enough and I can heal 1/2 - 1/3 of their health in one go when needed. I found myself alt-tabbing a lot during this run. lol
So with this spec I got this new toy Divine Favor. Not sure when to use it though. I tried a few times with my group but letting them go to low makes em nervous. They always pop their own heal before I get my big fat crit on em wasting it. lol
Oh well level 47 atm!
