Maybe this applies to you: WoW latency fix

Hey guys if your having trouble with ping times or feel you are doing your max dps rotations but arent getting out as much damage/heals as you think you should be then it might because of windows.
Back in November I had to wipe my hardrive and reinstall windows and when I started to play wow I was getting 250-450 ping times. I couldnt figure out what was going on, I reinstalled wow 3 times (such a pain) and it didnt do any good. So I said forget it what ever ill just try to have fun. So by January im getting great gear but cant beat 1800dps in raids it was very fusterating and I couldnt figure out why I was such a bad player, so I searched the web for internet fixes. Turns out Windows is the problem. On elitistjerks.com they made a post that fixes this problem that many other players have.
http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t17761-server_locations_latency_australia/p9/
I went from 250-450ms to 69ms-80ms and my dmg became outstanding with the proper specs/rotations used. I gained 800dps totally 2600dps (at the time was pretty good for the gear I had).
So a couple days ago I told Valkryiel about the fix, he added it and lost 100-200ms and his dps went up a bit. Same with Danglez, he made the change and lost 150ms. Primeight used to average 200-300ms but now is at 70ms. I really recommend this to anyone that feels they are falling behind even though they are doing everything else right.
Ok, so why havent i shared this with you guys in the past, well because it makes changes to your windows registry and its very very important that you do not make any mistakes or it can screw your windows up. Follow your instructions exactly and it will be fine. So be very careful, only use if you arent doing well compared to others.

I was wondering why my dps
Xendu (not verified) — Wed, 05/27/2009 - 08:31I was wondering why my dps was a bit lower than usual. The file I made in the regedit dissapeared I had to do it all again, weird. Just a heads up to all you that did this, if your ping is high again check to makesure the file is still there.
atak was on top of this from
Xendu (not verified) — Sat, 03/28/2009 - 20:48atak was on top of this from the start, and his link even shows you how to do it so you dont mess up.

I tried this and dropped from
Derchlon — Sat, 03/28/2009 - 23:20I tried this and dropped from 250-288ms to 88-99ms. Works great.
It works, I saw a ~ 190ms
Vulk — Sat, 03/28/2009 - 11:23It works, I saw a ~ 190ms decrease in latency. I'm now at an average of 90ms. To clear up any confuson on finding what you need to do it is quoted in the third comment of the linked page. Follow those steps and you're golden. As another note dont freak out if you cannot find the folder for step 2. Ive heard of 3 people that didn't have it and they got the same result. I did have it so I implimented the change.
I did some testing, I
Vulk — Sat, 03/28/2009 - 12:18I did some testing, I deleted the step 2 registry entry and rebooted. I noticed an increase from ~90ms to 105-115ms. So I reccomend implimenting step 2 if you have the folder becasue it knocks off another ~20ms.
too bad dont have step 2,
Xendu (not verified) — Sat, 03/28/2009 - 16:37too bad dont have step 2, but im sitting on a nice 60ms ping atm :)
Good find. Initial test
Cdhabro — Sat, 03/28/2009 - 09:20Good find.
Initial test (read: spamming flash heals for a full mana bar before and after change... very unofficial) show a reduction ~200ms for me. i didn't have a huge lag issue, but that is a good bit considering I was only running 250 - 300ms.
Thanks Xendu.
It does apply to me, and
jaibyrd — Sat, 03/28/2009 - 01:14It does apply to me, and probably others too as there are lots of windows users out there still, However, I'm still frozen with fear over the crash I just had so I'm not sure I'm brave enough to attempt this fix on my own yet. I'll see when my son gets back if he and I can sort it out together. Thanks for the post though.
Good post man. I'd say be
garreth — Fri, 03/27/2009 - 23:37Good post man. I'd say be careful when making these changes, but it would be great to be running a full raid full of people that have made this change. When I switched to Ubuntu Linux I noticed a drop in latency as well.
