Ok, I'm sure some of you have seen my little shouts the past few days about Borderlands. If you have not played this game, I HIGHLY suggest you do.( That is if you are a FPS and RPG fan)
The game is PHENOMENAL. One of the best I have played in a long time. It blends old school and new school FPS(Tons of guns as in 17 million different ones but with the selection strategy of halo and games that no longer let you carry 1 pistol 2 rifles and about 6 odd shaped guns on one person, also the enemies just have that old school serious sam/quake 1/2 feel to them). It also has a diablo/wow style of rpg element to it. 3 base classes with 3 spec trees each. You lvl either by grinding or questing. The enemies kinda lvl with you to an extent.
The best part, the game is up to 4 player co-op, with a drop-in/drop-out style=they can join and leave anytime they want.
I may even start up my Xbox live account for weekend play on live for this game alone.(Yes, its that fun) So if anyone that has Xbox live and this game would like to join my friend and I to play the game let me know you are interested. Basically an offense oriented one with maximal turret uptimes and minimal ammo/healing support. I generally suck at FPS so this at least lets me get something to shoot for me and a place to hide behind while I wildly shoot bullets into my foot.
So far, it's kinda fun. It just hasn't "hooked" me yet. The cell shading style and character intro screens are fun and whimsical. Well maybe I need to play more.

Felsteel — Tue, 11/10/2009 - 10:26The fun part for the solider is when you start shooting and kill something, then your gun starts spewing lead like like you just popped 10 Blade flurries. Best part is it refreshes every time you kill something else again. :D Mix that with the magazine size buffs from the specs and the later on class mods that gives you and your team static ammo regen and increased magazine size. YAY.

Felsteel — Tue, 11/10/2009 - 13:16Yeah for solo cauterizing is worthless, also hunters have a team health regen class mod as well. I mixed Metal Storm, Assault, Overload, a class mod that has +9 Team Ammo Regen/55% team Magazine Cap/ +2 Impact/+2 stockpile, a Combat Rifle that has around a 10-12 rate of fire with somewhere around 30% magazine size and 30% dmg, and a epic shield that has very quick health regen. So the Combat Rifle I use that has a 54 round clip now has like a 230 round clip(give or take). After metal storm procs I can empty it in no time. I can clear around 2 of the bruisers before reloading, maybe 3-4 if I get a lot of crits. Plus respects are easy and don't cost all to much.

I think yea I'll experiment, respec'ing frequently depending on points I have access to. Since only 7 points, perhaps it's not worth pumping points in turrets since the CD is still high. And Stockpile seems useless atm cause ammo is so easy to get. I only ran out of bullets of my rifle once and looted more instantly afterwards. lol

I tend to favor shotgun though. Metal Storm still work well with it? Or maybe go with Scattershot, though I've read that lowers accuracy as a side effect.

Felsteel — Tue, 11/10/2009 - 14:45The cost is a % of your money.The fights I'm going through now are eating up about 300-400 rounds of combat rifle ammo, depending on if/how many badasses we encounter. Later on the ammo regen is great, early game the extra dmg is better.
If you do play with friends and you are going to be the healer, rockets are great. Splash healing is awesome, and the bouncing bettie grenades are really good too.

BTW, I hate the graphics. Very buggy ini because its another crappy multi-platform game. Amazingly, all this is saved by awesome gameplay and story.

Kognus — Mon, 11/02/2009 - 03:42So right now I'm working on leveling up my soldier so that I can catch up with Mnor and Delirium and play more co-op with them. I've decided on a final spec too, guys (http://downloads.2kgames.com/borderlands/website/skilltree/roland/#01050...). It's pretty much the ultimate in support.
1) Zero second cooldown on Scorpio Turret, so effectively 100% uptime.
2) Constant ticking +5% health/second for everyone in the party who is near the turret.
3) +5 free ammo for everyone in the party who is near the turret.
4) Ability to heal party members by shooting them.
5) Ability to heal party members for +5% health/second for several seconds by killing an enemy.
6) Frequent supply drops for the party while the turret is down (which will be always and the rate is a drop every three seconds).
7) +35% damage done by the turret and +5 extra shots fired in each burst.
This just seems beastly. Imagine a group that is getting back +5% of their health every second just for standing near the turret while getting free ammo back and more supplies from frequent drops? All I'll need to do is drop the turret near something we can line-of-sight around then whenever your shield breaks and you take some damage you can duck behind the object, get healed to full, and get full ammo back. All the while the turret is blasting the shit out of everything. This seems overpowered as hell.
