Guild Meet-Up 2010 Committee

Saja's picture

Saja — Sat, 11/21/2009 - 00:37

Hi All,

I want to start planning guild meet up 2010. After thinking about it a lot, I think having it in Portland again might be the best idea. But I want to talk about it.

I'd like to schedule a vent meeting for those interested in planning after Thanksgiving.

I have a few ideas for helping people from far away get here.  So if you would like to take part in the committee please leave a comment and/or email me    dalene.schafer@gmail.com

My reason for here is: the largest concenration of guildies live here, and the free lodging can save us  a ton of money.

So please bring your ideas and everything else if you would like to have a say, and we will plan when to have this committee meeting.

On a side note...looking at some pictures from the past meetups:

A) What a giant pile of nerds

B) I'm nearly certain now that my acceptance into this guild was a matter of asian affirmative action!

If you're the opposite of Alli, doesn't that make you a custard filled donut?

No custard filled donut would imply brown skin and Asian tendencies....Popple is most definitely an egg....so is Shi :D

pulga — Sat, 11/21/2009 - 12:48

But why make only a few guildies fly in to the west coast when you can make most guildies fly to the east coast?  What's money worth anyway?

bluetouguyss — Sun, 11/22/2009 - 13:13

ROFL pulga.  That was my opinion when we talked about doing it in a more central location but not many guildies living in the area.  More people paying to travel and having to pay for food and lodging would have meant less people coming imo.  I am definately in!!!

Shihli's picture

To be honest, I think holding

Shihli — Sun, 11/22/2009 - 15:13

To be honest, I think holding it in Portland is still the best idea.  Reasoning is simple:

The most people live in, around, or close enough to Portland to make travel there simple.  Keisjaa and Alexinaa had about an 8-hour drive, but they were still able to do it.  Myself and Alli, it was only about a 5-hour drive.  For most other people, it was simple a drive around town.

Granted, a number of people had to fly or drive from Texas, Colorado, etc etc.  However, think about it this way:

Option 1) Hold it in Portland, incur travel costs for some guildies

Option 2)  Hold it in a central location - say ... Colorado or something; incur travel costs for almost all guildies.

Option 1 is going to be the least expensive for the most people.

However, I think we might want to put up a Chip In widget for travel expenses, maybe about 4-6 months out from the meet up.  That way, some of the more generous guildies can donate some money to help other guildies' travel expenses, and about 4-6 weeks before the meetup, we can send the money out (via PayPal or money order) to the guildies that would have the most expensive travel costs.

Just a thought.

I agree

Alexinaa — Mon, 11/23/2009 - 16:12

I agree, Portland make the most sense. Lodging can many times be more expensive than the travel part of any trip. Keisjaa and I were planning on coming no matter where it was held, Portland was very doable for us cost wise and we stayed in a hotel. It was about 11 hrs door to door for us (Stupid Ferry) each way. We also had baby Rachel with us and we are thinking we may leave her with grandparents next year .

bluetouguyss — Sun, 11/22/2009 - 23:36

Agreed shi!  Ya it is like a 2 hour drive for me and I have a place to stay at my parents when I am down there so that isnt an issue.  I would def put money down to help people be able to show up!

Saja's picture

That was my thinking also

Saja — Sun, 11/22/2009 - 23:04

That was my thinking also Shihli.  I'd like to talk about some ways to do this when we have our meeting.

Everyone, start thinking of ideas to bring to the "table" :)
