Garreth Says Run "Device Doctor"
garreth — Tue, 12/15/2009 - 12:29
My last post about discovering and correcting your latency in WoW was a big hit, so here's another easy-as-hell tool we can all use to make sure we're performing optimally:
Download it and run it. Device Doctor is easy and quick and will allow you to update all those drivers that I just KNOW you're all forgetting to update. Key drivers that every WoW player should have updated are:
- Network drivers
- video card drivers
- sound drivers
- various chipset drivers
Device Doctor should discover if you're behind on any of them and allow you to one-click install them. No excuse, go update yo' shit.

What is a driver? You
Fjork — Tue, 12/29/2009 - 13:00What is a driver? You talking about that movie where theold dude tries to teach the new driver the ropes?
Nice...first one I try to
Aidin — Tue, 12/15/2009 - 13:25Nice...first one I try to update is a busted zip!
"Thie archive is either in unknown format or damaged." ...lol
That happens to me too... but
chaca — Thu, 12/17/2009 - 16:24That happens to me too... but then I looked closer and I found that the file had a readme file that explained how to do the magic (and it had the spanish version! yesssssss ^^)
I applied all the updates and it seemed to have improved performance a lot (at least in heavy dalaran) When I have the chance to raid, I'll tell you how well the improvement was.
Thanks again for this G.
Hey Chaca, what hardware got
garreth — Thu, 12/17/2009 - 17:18Hey Chaca, what hardware got updated?
Mainly graph stuff
chaca — Thu, 12/17/2009 - 18:12My nVidia card, mi intel main board PCI Express and my Ricoh R5C843 Driver
Make sure to do a restore
Ewiges — Tue, 12/22/2009 - 11:21Make sure to do a restore point like it says. It installed a bad driver onto my computer and I'm having trouble fixing it.
I don't know what the hell it
Ewiges — Tue, 12/29/2009 - 12:30I don't know what the hell it did but I still haven't been able to fix it. I get random lock ups that last for about 5 minutes, then say windows has timed out, I press ok, then locks up for about another 5 before pretending nothing happens. I also internet going out, gotta fix that by a restart or turning my adapters off then back on. I also get short internet outages that drops me out of games but instantly comes back on.
I can't figure out why it would be doing this. No viruses got installed, all I updated was the graphics driver, which I then when to nvidia and did it my normal way afterwards but that didn't fix this. I'm thinking since I only have 7 RC I should just go back to vista now before they force me to in a few months.
Well, if anything, you know
garreth — Tue, 12/15/2009 - 13:35Well, if anything, you know what needs to be updated and can go track it down.
Note: This doesnt really help
Dikymo — Wed, 12/16/2009 - 02:04Note: This doesnt really help your ancient ass single core comp that uses 184 pin 333 ram.... Your (and by your I mean my) system will still suck ass. Time to upgrade slacker.
Cool
chaca — Tue, 12/15/2009 - 12:53Since I'm no system engineer or anything related, this is the type of advice that is most appreciated; Just one click and you're good to go! No weird code, just click ;)
Thank you some much G for taking care of we non-code magicians ^^
