The state of Derchlon's gaming computer

Derchlon — Mon, 05/25/2009 - 00:26

So, having missing Friday's raid, and probably not many of you knowing the reasons, let me explain.  Additional info on my raiding status to follow.

So Friday afternoon, I got off work to discover some guy decided to crash his vehicle into a telephone pole near my devolopement.  This line was the only line of power to the entire area, including my house, which would make me unraidable until at least 11:30pm.  Well after raid would have ended anyway.  So I spent my time reading a book, and staring at my phone, wondering if Grasen would call me to tell me you downed Yogg without me.  I'm upset that that was out of my control, but what has happened has happened.

Since then, I've received full power back.  With a few small problems...  The first, and major one, is that somehow in the chaos of the power outage, my gaming computer has decided it wants to die.  It refuses to boot past the Windows loading screen, and also receive an error, something involving my hard disk?  I don't recall completely, but a friend of mine has taken it to look it over and see if he can fix it himself.  With that said, the next part will seem pretty obvious:  I'm unraidable until this computer is fixed.  I could TRY to raid from this laptop I'm typing from, but the performance would be so bad, you'd be better off bringing a Holy Pally to do dps with Holy Shock or some such.  I'll keep this updated when I have news to update with.

Hopefully this won't take long, and I'll be back in action shortly.

Blizzard Downs Dragonspear

Dragon — Sun, 05/17/2009 - 17:38

Where did Dragon go?

That might be the quesiton on a least a coupla peoples mind since Wednesday. And here I am finally with an answer although unfortunately not a timeframe for returning.

On Wednesday after arriving home from Campus I started to play some WAR (picked up the game last weekend) and then did my usual log off an hour before Salmon started so that I could get ready for raid.

Went ahead, logged in as usual PW and all and I get. That is not a valid PW for the account.

Scratching my head, I put it in again. In fact, I proceded to put in my Password for oh a good 5 minutes attempting to log in. Being very sure by the end of it to hit every character exactly. So I figure, oh well maybe something is just wrong with the log in currently I will try blizzard's website. Nope can't log in there either.

So I am like, ok, I'll just have them reset my PW, send me the e-mail and I'll be back up and running.

Then I get sent to the battle.net site. Finally, I get around to the PW reset e-mail screen and it says that it is sent and should be there shortly.

So I open up Outlook and wait patiently, looking at all my other lovely blizzard e-mails I have gotten in the past.

15 Mintues passes still without an e-mail. I do the e-mail reset thingy again thinking something got effed up. No dice. I keep waiting, letting people know in vent that I prolly wont be there for raid that night.

Finally after an hour waiting impatiently for the e-mail. I give up, deciding to call blizzard the following day.

I call blizzard as soon as I get home on Thursday and the rep says that he can't see Battle.net having sent me any PW reset e-mails. But he tells me he will send me one. give it 15 minutes and if it hasn't arrived in an hour to send him an e-mail so he can try looking at the issue before he leaves for the day.

STILL no dice, although I did get a response back from him. And he told me that another reset e-mail should be coming right after his reply. E-mail never arrives.

Friday - I get 2 customer service e-mails from blizzard but still no PW reset e-mail. Temper is beginning to rise at this point since my subscription had just renewed on the 11th. I send another e-mail to my support guy telling him I still haven't gotten the e-mail to fix my crap.

Saturday - I sent in an e-mail to their support people overall asking them if they have some other way I can change my PW or an ability where I can change my e-mail. No response back yet obviously as they work hard during the week and thus get weekends off. (Not berating them for that)

So long story short. I can't log in period. Not with the old PW and obviously not with a reset PW. WIth any luck this will be fixed tomorrow during the day , but I am growing cynical about it.

Anyway, if you would like to contact me in some way. You can find me on AIM: MCorpsParrothead or Yahoo: HurrikanEagle@yahoo.com

P.S. WAR isn't a bad game at all for the pvp minded, but it's pve content is lacking horribly compared to WoW. However one of the first mods I DLed for WAR once I got it installed. Grid for WAR! Known as Square.

State of things.

Agoney — Tue, 04/21/2009 - 16:11

Well, for those who know me it's been pretty obvious that I haven't been in game that much in the past month or so, basically logging into raid (when I could actually make it). From that sentence I suppose you know where this is going. With work getting rather crazy and other commitments in life, I don't have the time currently to actively raid.

As it stands, I've missed every Ulduar raid except 2, one of which I had to leave early for work. It is not fair to anyone in raid or waiting to become an active raider if i'm not able to commit 100%. This isn't a I'm quitting see ya bye post, it's more of a means to say I have to become a more standby, casual raider, rather then active. If attendance is low and I'm on, I'd be more and happy to raid, I just can't make the promise I can be there each night anymore, and as I said above, thats not fair to anyone in KB. Hopefully when things clear up I can attempt to earn a spot back, but until then I'll have to reside on the proverbial bench.

I want to thank everyone (esp Garreth for allowing me back into guild/raiding after TBC events) that I've got to raid with over the years. I'll still be in game when I can, and def will be on the site, but it was more appropriate that I make this official rather then keep the guessing game going.

Stepping Into Ulduar

garreth — Sat, 04/18/2009 - 00:13

Just a quick update for the front page:

Downfall had it's first real, stable nights of raiding in Ulduar Thursday and Friday.  We've downed Flame Leviathan, Ignis, Razorscale and XT-002 already.  Lots of loot and well designed bosses (even before hard modes).

So far raid attendance has been stellar for both 25-man raids.  We are, however, always looking for potential healers to step up and commit to raid nights. For more information contact me or Shihli on this site and we can fill you in with more details.

In the meantime, read up on Ulduar in Saedo's conglomerated Ulduar strat guide: /Ulduar.  It's a great guide that we've put together from multiple strat and info sites.  Downfall specific strats and videos will be posted when we get them.

For those of you looking for a 25-man Naxx still, please check out Torvo's run here: /node/5979

Garreth out April 20-24

garreth — Fri, 04/10/2009 - 14:10

I will be in Vancouver, BC from Monday April 20 to Friday April 24 for work training.

That's an entire week I'm out of raiding (and probably Ulduar) so get someone in my spot and keep moving.  I'll post the latest FR points file to the raid officer forums.  Keep moving.

How to do "The Immortal"

Shihli — Fri, 03/20/2009 - 11:45

Starting from the top.  Going to ignore trash because we shouldn’t be dying on trash anyway, and I know you guys will anyway …

GENERAL RULES

  1. Drop/sell/remove all items for Divine Intervention from your inventory if you are a paladin.
  2. DO NOT use Shadow Word: Death, Life Tap, or any other spells/abilities that reduce your health.
  3. Classes with taunts that are not tanking (Death Knights, Hunters, etc) – REMOVE TAUNTS from your bars.
  4. Have Omen installed and updated, and PAY ATTENTION to your threat.
  5. Don’t slack off.
  6. Don’t die, do whatever it takes to survive.
  7. If your connection is shitty going into the raid, figure out what’s wrong with it before we start pulls, or you may be asked to sit out.
  8. Don’t be stupid.
  9. DON’T – BE – STUPID.

Now then, without further ado …

Deathknight Wing

  1. Instructor Razuvious
    1. Tanks (Nuitarin, Pudolski, Orky) must lead the charge in, dps does NOT follow them in until threat is established on Razuvious.
    2. Paladins – cancel Shadow Resist Aura.
    3. Mind controllers need to be vocal about when to taunt, when their shields drop, and when they are dropping their student.
    4. Dps wait for the “start dps” signal before opening fire.
    5. After Razuvious is dead the fight IS NOT OVER.  Kill the students without dying.

  1. Gothik the Harvester
    1. WATCH YOUR AOE.  Generally just single-target dps.
    2. Don’t attack something that has no tank on it.
    3. If you are low on health, stand back and get healed/bandage before jumping in.

  1. Four Horsemen
    1. Stack on top of your tanks if you’re killing Thane (circle)/Rivendare. (diamond).
    2. MELEE – NEVER EVER get near Zeliek (triangle).
    3. Do NOT run through groups of people when running away from Zeliek (triangle) to let DoT stacks drop off, due to Holy Wrath.
    4. Make sure a tank doesn’t eat a Meteor on Thane (circle) all by themselves.
    5. Remember, on Blamieux (star) and Zeliek (triangle) the closest person by proximity will have PERMANENT threat until someone else gets closer – make sure you’re not closer to the boss than a tank.

Plague Wing

  1. Noth the Plaguebringer
    1. Decursing is a high priority, make sure everyone gets decursed quickly – this includes you, mages/boomkins.
    2. When he blinks he aggro drops, be careful and don’t yank off your tank (Orky).
    3. Offtanks (Nuitarin, Pudolski) – pick up adds quickly and know where they spawn from.
    4. During Phase 2, the adds can and will cleave – be careful, melee.

  1. Heigan the Unclean
    1. Deadhli will have a SQUARE over his head – during the dance phase, stay with him and try your best not to run ahead of, or fall behind, him.
    2. Diseases need to be cleansed VERY fast – totems can do this but manual cleansing may be needed as well.
    3. Remember, there’s almost two full cycles of “dancing” required each dance phase, so don’t stop early.

  1. Loatheb
    1. Spore-killing groups need to kill their spores quickly to make sure they don’t get close to the main tank (Orky).
    2. Healers – know which groups you’re going to handle.
    3. Everyone else – stand in a tight pack so that AoE heals will do the most healing possible.
    4. Power Word: Shield is your friend, use it liberally.

Abomination Wing

  1. Patchwerk
    1. Main tank (Pudolski) needs to be a step or two behind the offtanks (Nuitarin, Orky) to make sure he doesn’t get insta-gibbed by Hateful Strike.
    2. Melee dps can ONLY begin when both offtanks (Nuitarin, Orky) have taken a Hateful Strike.
    3. Healers – be very clear about who is healing who.

  1. Grobbulus
    1. Melee needs to stay behind Grobbulus at all times, at maximum effective range, to make sure you don’t spawn additional slimes.
    2. Grobbulus needs to be moved out of the poison clouds quickly and cleanly – no extra/random movement please.
    3. Slimes will need a touch of dps to make sure they don’t pile up too much on the offtank (Pudolski).
    4. Do NOT cleanse the Mutagen Injection.
    5. If injected, run back along the established kite path and “blow up” near the other spawned poison clouds.  Do not stand in them though, and leave as soon as your injection goes off.
    6. Once Grobbulus is dead, DO NOT loot his corpse or stand in poison clouds until you have FULLY left combat.

  1. Gluth
    1. DO NOT USE Blood Pact or Commanding Shout, or any other “short-term” health boosts, as they may wear off during a Decimate and you will get one-shot.
    2. Kill zombie chows as soon as Decimate goes off.
    3. Be careful getting into the room, and don’t pull aggro off of your tanks.

  1. Thaddius
    1. NEGATIVE charged people will run to the LEFT of the platform, based on facing Thaddius from the entrance to his room.
    2. POSITIVE charged people will run to the RIGHT of the platform, based on facing Thaddius from the entrance to his room.
    3. Polarity Shifts will be called, so watch your polarity and move accordingly.
    4. Groups need to stand at maximum melee range, and be tight-knit to make sure when polarity shifts occur, you don’t have far to run.
    5. IF SOMEONE DISCONNECTS DURING THE FIGHT, listen over vent because Thaddius will have to be moved away from that person.
    6. ONCE THADDIUS IS DEAD, SPREAD OUT AND WATCH YOUR CHARGES.  Treat the post-fight charge wear-down as part of the fight.  Make sure you are on the correct side for your charge!

Spider Wing

  1. Anub’Rekhan
    1. Watch your threat at all times.
    2. Kill corpse scarabs when they spawn.
    3. Move out of the Insect Swarm early.
    4. Healers – make sure you don’t get touched by Insect Swarm as it will silence you.
    5. Take care of yourselves and watch your health when he Impales.

  1. Grand Widow Faerlina
    1. Kill the two Fanatics (X and Skull) first, and quickly.  Ignore the other adds.
    2. Don’t stand in Rain of Fire.
    3. Move quickly out of Rain of Fire so that dps can stay strong.
    4. Main tank (Orky) will need heavy heals when she goes enraged.

  1. Maexxna
    1. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT BURN HER BELOW 31% BEFORE SHE DOES A MASS WEB WRAP.  THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
    2. Kill spider adds when they spawn, quickly.
    3. Two people (usually hunters) must be assigned to break people free of web wraps.  These hunters will likely need one healer to babysit them.
    4. Watch your threat.

Frostwyrm Lair

  1. Sapphiron
    1. Melee – STAY OUT until the main tank (Orky) has threat.  Sapphiron starts the fight funny and she can one-shot you before Orky has a change to start building threat, if you stand too close to her as the fight starts.
    2. Frost Aura will help here.
    3. Make sure, when in melee range, you are not standing behind her (Tail Whip) or in front of her (Frost Breath, Cleave).  Stand next to her right hind leg.
    4. Watch out for the Chill (looks like a Blizzard).  Do not stand in it, and when it is on you, move out of it.
    5. Melee – Sapphiron has a huge hit box so if you’re in a Chill, there’s a lot of room to use to get out of it while still being able to attack.
    6. SHE WILL ICE BLOCK THREE PEOPLE before using her Frost Bomb.  Get behind these blocks ONLY after all three have gone up – otherwise, you run the risk of hitting people with the quick AoE that being blocked does, if she targets you with it near a group of people.
    7. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE OUT OF LINE-OF-SIGHT when behind a block.  THIS IMPORTANT.
    8. After the bomb goes off, run in and resume your job.

  1. Kel’Thuzad
    1. Move in as a group, don’t lag or fall behind.
    2. Healers will start the fight with marks over their heads, make sure you are all evenly spread out around the room during Phase 2/3.
    3. Be clear about healing assignments, particularly when offtanks (Nuitarin, Pudolski) have to tank in Phase 3.
    4. When killing adds in Phase 1 – don’t accidentally shoot the skeletons in the back of the room; this will force A LOT of them to attack, and potentially wipe the raid due to their high raid-wide damage when they die.
    5. Phase 1 – make sure there’s a tank on the Abominations before attacking them.
    6. Kill all adds in Phase 1 quickly and be vocal about them.
    7. Melee – during Phase 2/3, STAY TIGHT in your assigned groups so as not to chain Frost Blasts onto other groups or the main tank (Orky).
    8. Ranged/healers – spread out to avoid chaining Frost Blast.
    9. Watch if you are hit with Detonate Mana and move out of groups accordingly when you are.
    10. MOVE OUT OF VOID ZONES – THEY WILL ONESHOT YOU.
    11. When Kel’Thuzad casts a mass Mind Control, HE WILL DROP ALL THREAT.  Dps needs to stop at this point in time and make sure the main tank (Orky) re-establishes threat.  This also means that ALL AOE-TYPE DAMAGE NEEDS TO STOP so as not to kill mind-controlled people.
    12. People who are mind controlled need to be feared or cycloned – PREFERABLY FEARED.  Polymorph and/or stuns should be used sparingly if at all.
    13. DO NOT KILL PEOPLE WHO ARE MIND CONTROLLED!
    14. Interrupts need to be used on Kel’Thuzad’s Frost Bolts, PARTICULARLY after he has used his mass Mind Control.  He may target a non-tank with a Frost Bolt and hit them for up to 30k damage.
    15. Make sure if you have to move out of position for ANY reason that you avoid running near other players so as not to chain Frost Blast.

That should cover most of the strategy required for The Immortal.  Anyone have anything else to add, I will add it to this master document.
