I would check with Disrupta
Katibug — Sat, 10/25/2008 - 17:53I would check with Disrupta the druid about how he specs when he raids. Either that, or check his spec on a raid night because he pvp's resto.
Rupta has been consistently out dpsing many of the pure damage classes and would be a good person to check with for a decent boomkin spec.
Moonkin has a lot of bloated
Disrupter — Sat, 10/25/2008 - 22:03Moonkin has a lot of bloated talents, and thus you can spec a few different ways. Technically speaking when I raid if I was willing and able to, could respec specifically for each fight to optimize... but that's expensive and slightly more than is expected of the average raider ;p.
Your spec could deviate based on a lot of factors:
Content you are raiding.
Gear
Personal Preferrence
Mana Longevity
I'm assuming, based off your current gear, your content level is at... Mag/Gruul/10 man level. I'm going to recommend this spec, if you're having mana difficulties at all, otherwise you can move the mana regen talents else where.

Is the spec I recommend, there are just too many things to get than there are talents... and what most moonkins end up doing is giving up mana for damage. I took away a little of your aoe damage and your dot damage for some more regen and mana.
Going from your level of gear you may want to avoid gemming any haste. At a certain point pre 3.0, About 1400 spell damage, haste started to get very marginally better than spell damage. At my current level regemming my entire set would yield 20 more dps. The only problem is, the theorycrafters forget about mana, and I'd oom alot more often than before. So I definitely don't recommend gemming haste.
The Stats that yieled the most DPS increase are:
Hit to Cap(17%) > Spell Power > Haste > Crit > Intellect/Spirit.
If you're raiding with atleast one Draenei and properly specced you only need 113 spell hit to be capped in a raid situation. You have 0, so that's definitely what you're looking to get at this point.
For gems right now spell hit all around will be your best bet, but once you reach the cap I'd recommend:
Red Sockets: Spell Power
Yellow Sockets: Spell Power Crit
Blue Sockets: Spell Power Spirit
If the socket bonus is 4-5 spell damage odds are it's worth taking, even if you have the 2 blue socket requirement for a meta. An example would be a chest piece with 1 of each socket color, with a 5 spell power bonus. As long as the socket bonus only requires one blue gem, it will nearly always be worth getting. As an example, a pair of pants with one of each socket with a socket bonus of 5 spell power, assuming x3 runed living rubies yields 27 spell power. While going off my specified gemming yields ~25 spell power, 4 spell crit, and some longevity.
Hope this helps a little bit, as you gear yourself out from head to toe with with spirit, you may even want to respec. Once you're finally not going oom on any of the fights you're doing, go ahead and whisper me and I might beable to help you squeeze some more dps out of your spec.
btw this is my current spec
