tank gear and build??
sinisterhyde — Sat, 11/08/2008 - 20:51
So i have really been working on my gear for both dps and tanking but dont seem to have the health or armor to tank and I feel like thats the way I want to take my main as tank but Im not 100% sure of what I should really be looking for in GOOD tank gear... If anyone could give me some pointers on what really makes a good/ beneficial tank I would really apppreciate it and what i should look for as Wrath is all but upon us! Anything would be very helpful! Below I have my gear spread for you if you want to know what I have and I know its kinda mixed up with some PvP gear but havent found much better at where I am at...

bluetouguyss — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 11:44Also be well read on the instances you are going into and know your strat for each boss. That is very helpful.
I really do appreciate
sinisterhyde — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 16:29I really do appreciate everyones input into this subject because it has helped me understand a bit more about tanking because through most of my leveling i was trying to be more of a DPS feral druid and didnt get a real taste of tanking until I was around level 64 or 65 and I really took a liking to the tanks position and responsibilities! The spot I think i was going wrong was looking for pure stam and not so much agility which left me vulnerable to crits and I will definitely be looking to improve that as Wrath comes out! I would love to run around with another tank or two in game to pick their brains about raid strat and instances if possible cause I want to be able to be the best I can be and useful to those around me :)
I hadnt seen that before
bluetouguyss — Sun, 11/09/2008 - 11:09Regarding SotF making you uncrittable by itself, but if thats the case it makes sense. Most of the gear with defense rating on it is junk now because blizzard has taken away all of the bonus armor off of it so it's generally really low aka: heavy clefthoof armor is in the 200's per piece!
It seems like you could esentially wear the same gear for cat dps as you would for tanking which I really hate! I liked having a dps set and a tanking set. Obviously some of the pieces would mix and match but for the most part your plus armor, dodge and def rating items were nice to have.
When wrath comes out like someone already said your additional armor you get from being in bear form will change dramatically. You will no longer get that bonus on rings or weapons! I am already down 6k armor since the patch I am really interested to see how bad it is in wrath! I thought that there was going to be more differentiation in gear after wrath for feral druids but everything I have read seems to point to the opposite actually happening.

The main priorities as a bear
Atar — Sat, 11/08/2008 - 23:43The main priorities as a bear are to become un-crittable (for which you need 2.6% anti-crit against a level 73), get decent amounts of health and armour and, if in an OT or hybrid role, stack agility. 2.6% anti-crit is 154 defence rating (415 defence total) or 103 resilience. You can mix and match, but make sure you check afterwards that you have a total that comes out to more than 2.6% to be safe. Remember that although you need more defence, you do get some avoidance out of it so it's not always most worth getting pure resilience.

Remember a few things
Shihli — Sat, 11/08/2008 - 23:57Remember a few things Atar:
1) You can become uncrittable purely from talents now - Survival of the Fittest (Rank 3) gives 6% anti-crit, so you actually DON'T need any additional defense or resilience to become uncrittable in a raid environment.
2) Health and armor are always huge plusses, however the way that bears get armor from gear is changing in Wrath (ad might have changed already). Armor from equipment (helm, chest, etc) gets multiplied in bearform (e.g. 100 armor on your bracers becomes 450 armor in bear form). However, armor from non-standard gear (rings, trinkets, WEAPONS, etc) does NOT get multiplied in bear form anymore (750 armor from your staff will ONLY give 750 armor in bear form).
3) Druids are expected to be tanking in "rogue leather" in Wrath - that is, gear with lots of agility, hit, expertise, etc. So expect to be using a lot of gear that rogues are going to want.
this is where to go

The key things to know. STACK AGILITY! It gives you AP, armor, dodge and crit chance. Get lots of stam gear as well. Def rating is big as well as resilience. The two numbers need to be greater than 2.6% anti crit to make you uncrittable. Def rating is preffered because it also gives you dodge as well. I believe it is 415 def rating for anti crit. you can make up any difference though with res if need be. Armor is more difficult to come by. Most items that used to have extra armor on them and be standards for armor no longer do it i.e. the heavy clefhoof leatherworking set. I used to have 21k armor and after the patch I have 15k or so. Anyway read and live by that thread as it is really helpful.
Ok I was not too sure whether
sinisterhyde — Sat, 11/08/2008 - 23:31Ok I was not too sure whether or not I should have more strength in the mix with what i already had and I do see the point where I need to get the agility up a bit lol thanks for the website suggestion lots to read and it seems like it will be greatly beneficial once i can get through all of it! Do you think most of this will stay pretty much true with the expansion coming out or will blizz go screwing with our stuff even more because i have tried to find stuff about it but havent had such good luck in that.
Any other pointers that anyone wants to pass along would be greatly appreciated in bettering my druid knowledge in the game :)
A lto of stuff is changing in
Shihli — Sat, 11/08/2008 - 23:39A lto of stuff is changing in the expansion. If you haven't found any details, well, that means you haven't been LOOKING.
