Rogue Blog

saedo — Tue, 03/03/2009 - 02:50

Before the Raid:

Traditionally I'm a combat spec'd rogue, the Savage Combat (2% physical damage) debuffer.   For this fight I decided I had to go Mutilate, this was to accomplish a few things:

  • More single target dps.   Tenebron must die.
  • Murder, 4% more damage to dragonkin, etc, this adds to the above
  • Expose Armor, glyphed for 10 sec more durations.   This takes advantage of the lack of a 3rd glyph for Mutilates.   Most of the time, we did not have a Sunder Armor, so Expose Armor would be best.   So long as there's at least 1 other physical dps than me (Lumi, Quis), this would be an immense raid dps benefit at a cost of my own, relatively at least.
  • Master Poisoner, 3%, at first the raid lost a ret pally (/mourn Hbk), so this debuff would've been better synergy for our group.    We weren't all physical dps, instead, this crit would benefit all.    Though, when we brought Zildo in as an Elem Shammy, I quickly respec'd out of it for Turn the Tables for moar personal dps.

The Start:

The only real trick I did was with Tricks of the Trade (mai misdirect).    I set Nuit (drake tank) up as my focus, so with my macro it'd auto go to him whenever i push it, but for the Sarth pull, I put it on Deadhli (sarth tank).    High threat for him at the start, dps away for the hell of it til Tenebron shows up.

Tenebron:

Now I usually stick on to Sarth a bit longer.   I have sprint.   I also have a Tricks timer.   Pretty much Tenebron becomes actively right when my Tricks CD wears off (30 sec).   So I sprint over at the 5-10 sec mark.    Also making sure I try to do one last Envenom to refresh my SnD.

First order of business, get a 5 point Expose Armor up on Tenebron.   After that, depending on the timer of my SnD.  I'd either work up an Envenom to refresh it, or start my CDs off for more dps.    Since we were saving Heroism for a bit later, and since Mutilate CDs plain suck and don't really benefit from Heroism (1 free crit, and 6 sec of -10 energy moves) I went all out from the start.   Well also using Tricks on Nuit just before if I didn't already imply that before.

Compared to the 25 man, this is far far easier to survive.  There's just less shit less people less spell effects everywhere.   Can clearly see the blue circles of death.   Should have plenty of time.   Move.   No excuses for melee to die.

Shadron:

If you have good dps, Tenebron should be at the 30% ish mark, this is when we popped Heroism.    This is where you might be a little more careful.   Things get a bit more crowded with 2 drakes, and possibly adds moved to the area.   But still, it shouldn't be hard to move.

After Tenebron dies, Pudo was so kind to move the adds to Shadron.   So instead of going on adds, I kept autoattack Shadron and Fan of Knives the adds.    Rogues just don't have splash damage, well unless BF, it's an either or, dps one or dps all.  Anyways if the adds weren't by him, I'd have to switch targets and run there.    Oh, did I mention Tricks, it should be off CD and used now.    Can safely aoe without pulling aggro, give all that threat to someone else.   I was lazy and kept it to my focus target, Nuit.    Well in my defense it gives Nuit Shadron threat!    And any stray adds are picked up quickly by Pudo.

Vesperon:

By now all adds should be dead.   There probably was some dps time on Shadron, but not a lot.   Don't remember, but I believe he was around 70% ish.    But anyways, here's the clutch time.   This is where the damage to the raid skyrockets.

Tricks should be off CD again.   What I did was Tricks Nuit again, and whacked Vesperon a  few times.    Then back to Shadron.    Expose Armor and dps away.

Don't kill yourself with Twilight Torment.  Actually I set my Parrot to give me a warning earlier for Low Health, turned it up to 50%.    Stop autoattacking and try to heal when you're low like 40%.    It turns out I even used my last Ogri'la healthstone for this, I'm not sure if I wanna go back up there to farm more.   lol

Anyways, don't panic.    Slowly but steadily kill Shadron, and once he's down, make sure your own health isn't low, and go through the portal to kill Shadron's disciple.    Careful not to get close to Vesperon's disciple or you will aggro him.    Low aggro radius, but can happen.

After than, return and you're over the hump.   Breaths are far more managable.  Fire damage is less, so those random Lava Strikes from the sky aren't as brutal.   Still watch for Twilight Torment.

The Home Stretch:

Getting Vesperon down should be pretty easy, well relative to the first half of the fight.    Continue like the other drakes, Expose Armor, dps dps dps.

Of course after he's down, we go kill Vesperon's disciple.

Then it's all Sarth.   Just a tank and spank with a fire wave dance.    Still kept up expose armor of course for moar dps.

So we beat this tonight

Nuitarin — Mon, 03/02/2009 - 23:29

So we beat Sartharion, 3 drakes, 10 man tonight (3/2/09). We were using the 3 tank 2.5 healer strat in order to make sure Tenebron did not spawn two groups of whelps. Here is a list of who was there, comments to follow will give more detail on the individual jobs.

Tanks:

Deadhli - Blood DK tanking sarth, large breaths were mitigated using DK cooldowns and BoSac from Karv

Nuitarin - Feral tank on the drakes

Pudolski - Protection pally on flame adds and whelps

Healers

Karvinen - Holy pally healing on Sarth tank, other tanks when able

Moriella - Holy priest healing on raid and drake/flame tank when able

DPS

Zildo - Elemental shaman and off healer during shadron/vesperon and healing in the portals.

Luminaire - Survival hunter

Saedo - Rogue

Quisjaa - 21/50/0 frost DK

Disrupta - Boomkin

Notes on what I did (I'm the drake tank) during the fight: On the pull, I used Sartharion to get rage to full then moved to Tenebron's landing point. I grabed Tenebron and repositioned for the first flame wave. I tried to move Tenebron to Shadron's landing point as soon as I could.

When Shadron landed, I was tanking both drakes and used some survival cooldowns. We used heroism at this point. I used Berserk to increase the AOE damage. Dodged waves until Vesperon landed.

Luminaire misdirected Vesperon over to me. It seemed best to tank all the drakes in one spot to save run time and for healer range. I used some more mitigation cooldowns while tanking both drakes. After Shadron died, dps and Zildo took the portal and killed Shadron's disciple. We killed Vesperon, then portaled and I tanked the Vesperon acolyte. After that, I used innervate/battle res as needed and taunted Sartharion off Deadhli since I take a bit less physical damage. Had someone judge wisdom on Sarth, Win.

Fight may have been easier with a ret pally and/or a shadow priest. The healing was very intense according to the healers.
