This is a quick heads up to BE PREPARED FOR ILLIARI COUNCIL tonight, specifically in regards to positioning and tanking.
After you have read the strat here, make sure to check out this vid for a great look at positioning and rogue tanking: http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=56197
An absolutely great guide to mage tanking can be found on the EJ forums: http://elitistjerks.com/644541-post258.html
Basically, our druid tank has a hell of a job picking up that rogue. The druid will have to hang out in the middle of the room in human form and spam a macro that looks something like this:
/tar Veras
/cast Moonfire
Once we have the pull down, it's a 15 minute marathon. We got this.
Edit 2/28: I was scanning the Gorg forums (don't think any less of me, please) and came across the following quote by Ratgirl. "ILLIDARI COUNCIL: THE SUPERBOWL OF NOT STANDING IN STUFF." I thought that summed it up quite well :)

Karli — Wed, 02/27/2008 - 11:06It also means:
1) I won't bitch if I can't get a shadow priest (although it's always nice)
2) I will still need a bop as the priest will likely try and smite me (unless a CS can get off)

I read up on this quite a bit after raid on Monday and I just wanted you to know there are several methods of mage tanking, and they do not all mandate the sacrificing of a water elemental.
To bring up a couple of points: first, one of the crucial elementas of this pull is a successful Spellsteal. Spellsteal is an arcane ability. Whether or not the mage tanking actually has to be in tanking gear may be a bit irrelevant. Either you plan for a "whoops" 15K hit, or you don't. Regardless, what you're looking as is that the mage at the very least should have high arcane hit rating and and best additionally have high stamina.
Frost and fire mages receive 3% hit to their spells through one talent, and arcane receives 10% from another. Most fire specs today sub out icy veins for the arcane talent. Some frost specs still get the arcane talent, but usually only up to 6%. If you have a mage sporting high stamina gear, it can be a bit tricky to make sure you also at cap for arcane spells.
A successful spellsteal can make or break the pull; but it's honestly just that 1.5 seconds that truly require both the high HP and the arcane hit cap. Once you're past it, the mage isn't really in danger at all. In fact, it's honestly one of the safest places in the room. The concern for the entire remainder of the fight for the mage is maintaining threat and holding aggro above the healers.
As I mentioned previously, I will be going back to fire for this fight and for Illidan. I don't imagine it will be too hard since we won't be clearing through all of BT in one night and I can start each night the spec I want/need to be.
My spec will be the old school 10/48/3. I am giving up Icy Veins (which has been showing to be the "new top dps", which me as an arcane mage slightly roffles at), to preserve points in arcane hit and get clearcasting to help with mana.
What this means is that my spellsteal will have a 1% chance of being resisted, I will be more mana efficient as fire, I willl have 41 yard range and be able to start the pull out of combat and with guaranteed aggro from the nethermancer, and will definately have zero problems maintaining threat.
When I respecced I made sure
Disrupter — Wed, 02/27/2008 - 11:57When I respecced I made sure to drop 2 non dps talents to max out my hit, so I also have the hit cap for arcane spells.
Also, have about 11k hp unbuffed and ice barrer! So if Karli isn't online or wants a break, I'm also fully capable of tanking.
So we have options, if an ice barrer and a sacrificial elemental sounds more beneficial I'd be glad to step up to the tanking plate if it means downing this guy faster.
Just plx don't let me get one shot by a rogue ><;.
I'd definitely love to get

garreth — Wed, 02/27/2008 - 10:46And, to state it for the record because quite a few people have asked:
Our focus is 100% Illidan. We're so close. We're going to be a little "hardcore" this week, and I PROMISE that we'll relax once he's down. But I just please ask that we all stay a little more "hardcore" for a few more days.
This will eventually lead to LESS raiding as we 2-night BT from here on out, with a nice relaxing Hyjal or a trip to Sunwell to finish off our weeks ;)
Stick with it. Illidan goes down very soon for Downfall.
It appears that the rogue
garreth — Wed, 02/27/2008 - 10:39It appears that the rogue pretty much stays in the center of the room and runs across to his targets. The druid in the video does an amazing job of moving constantly and getting that moonfire off immediately. Nuit totally has this.
Other than that, it's a "There-is-fire-you-need-to-not-stand-in-the-fire" fight. Illidan tonight plx.
That was the exact video I

My girl, she likes to party all the time.
