Naxxramas 10 Blurb Strats
saedo — Sat, 11/22/2008 - 13:30
Arachnid Quarter
Anub'Rekhan
- Impale, spikes everyone between Anub and random target up for damage and into the air for fall damage as well
- Locus Swarm, for 16 sec, stacking DoT while running at 75% speed. Crypt Guard will spawn, tank kites, people kill spawn.
- Crypt Guards, stacking dot on tank, aoe webs, cleaves
Grand Widow Faerlina
- Poison Bolt Volley, hits 5 closest targets, every 15 sec, dispellable
- Rain of Fire
- Frenzy, every 60-80 sec, physical damage up by 150%, haste by 50%, can hit upwards of 15K on tanks
- 4 Worshippers at the beginning, off tanked BUT NOT KILLED. Each one that dies near Faerlina will remove the enrage and silence her preventing the Poison Bolt Volley for 30 sec. 1 KILLED PER FRENZY to stop the frenzy for 60 sec, else it only delays her for 30 seconds. Have one ready to be killed when frenzy is about up.
Maexxena
- Web wrap, starts at 20 sec mark, then every 40 sec later, sends 1 person to back wall in cocoon, 6K hp and must be destroyed before he dies
- Web spray, incapacitates everyone for 6 sec, every 40 sec.
- Poison Shock, frontal cone damage every 10 sec
- Necrotic Poison, reduces healing by 90% to melee in front, cleanse off tank ASAP
- Frenzy at 30%
- Spiderlings, 8 spawn at the 30 sec mark, then every 40 sec later, 7.3K hp
Plague Quarter

WotLK sets record sales
lesda — Thu, 11/20/2008 - 12:50
Activision Blizzard says World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King shatters day-1 sales record; sells more than 2.8 mln copies in 24hrs
This is a big GRATS! to Luminaire, Downfall's first 80! I think he was also the realm-first 80 Hunter as well! Also, GRATS! to Shinso, Realm First Something Or Other That Has To Do With Cooking! Keep it up, this week is shaping up to be tons of fun for everyone!
Eighties so far (reply here so i can add you!):
- Lumi
- Roguered
- Closer
- Vroomlos
- Nuitarin
- Hbk
- Disrupta
In other news, all bank privileges have been inscreased for ranks above "Intern". We'd really like to see you guys pulling out anything you need. Go nuts! We bought a fifth bank slot finally, so that shoud free up some room.
I've scheduled a 10-man Naxx for 4pm this Saturday. I know we'll have plenty of people at or near 80, if I'm not actually myself ;) Also, don't be afraid to make events on the site to get groups set up for instances as you grind. It's there, use it!
Wrath Starting Zones
Olorien — Wed, 11/12/2008 - 16:34
So I have been trying to decide which starting area to choose. I know that Dufe said that he is going to be in Borean Tundra and since he is somewhat the resident Beta tester for the guild that is the direction I was leaning but I didn't have any other reason for this choice. So I was hoping that I could get some people who have made that decision too post where they were starting and why to get a better feel for good place to go.
Quick Notes for Wrath Dungeons
saedo — Wed, 11/12/2008 - 13:39
I thought I'd give a very brief rundown on the dungeons based on what I encountered in Beta.
Utgarde Keep:
Fairly straight foward instance. Kill stuff as you move along through it.
Prince Kaleseth
- Pulled when the mobs in his room dies
- Summons skeleton adds, 1 dps can probably solo them all
- Frost tombs people (like Winterchill), but you can attack it. Do destroy it before they die.
- Heroic: Rez'es those skellies a lot more
Skarvald and Dalronn
- They should die together, coordinate dps to do so, order does not matter
- If they don't, an untargettable shadow copy of the one you killed will spawn and continue to attack you
- Heroic: Summons skellies through out the fight
Ingvar
- 2 Phases, kill him once, resurrects, kill him again
- Do not stand in front of him.
- Heroic: Same thing but hits harder
The Nexus:
This place is well more open to paths. To face the final boss, who's actually right at the beginning, you got to kill the other 3 to release her. I would say the pathing to this is similar to AQ20. You can go to the 3 in any order, and they have paths that connect to each other. So say, you could pick a direction and go through it entirely via clockwise route, or jump randomly if you choose.
Commander Kolurg / Stoutbeard
- Appears in Heroic at the Horde/Alliance ice tombs
- Whirlwinds, fears, charges
Grand Magus Telestra
- Nothing special, at about half way through, she splits into 3, kill em and she merges again
- Has a Gravity Well similar to M'uru (throws you in the air)
- Heroic: Splits twice in the fight, might want to CC'd em too.
Anomalus
- Summons sparks, he's immune to damage til the sparks die, so kill sparks.
- Heroic: More sparks around
Ormorok
- Spawns spikes on the ground, don't stand in them.
- Spell reflects
- Heroic: Roots you (stand on tank to avoid being rooted on spikes)
Keristrasza - imo the first "hard" boss you'll encounter
- Destroy the crystals to release her
- Don't stand in front or behind her
- Stacking debuff that is removed via moving or jumping, so mash that spacebar as if the spacegoats are coming.
- Heroic: Nothing that new
Azjol-Nerub
I would say this is very similar to the Hyjal format. You'll get several waves of trash coming at you. When they all die, boss will come after you.
Krik'thir the Gatewatcher
- Nothing all that special. Summons bugs, aoe em whenever
- Like Hyjal, trash is basically more difficult. Let the tank aoe tank, don't die
- Just release and run back if you do, very short run
- Heroic: Stuff just comes faster so more dps
Hadronox
- Webs
- Poisons
- Trash waves before have slightly bigger mobs
- You're further in, so by now, try not to die.
- Heroic: Drops a lot of poison clouds so kite boss out of them
Anub'arak
- Trash waves no longer apply here
- Summons spikes, don't stand on them
- Pound does damage and stuns
- This fight was annoying to me, he kept burrowing underground
- Anyways, spawns adds when he does, kill them. I believe it was 1 elite and 2 non-elites
- Heroic: Pound hits significantly harder, 19K on plate, so people should run out during its cast time. Trash waves also progressiviely harder. First time has 1 easy wave. Second time has 2 waves, with poison spitters that do a lot of damage. Third time has a bunch too.
Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom
Mostly straightfoward, couple of turns that wind up bringing you to the same place anyways.
Elder Nakox
- Summons little adds and an elite Guardian
- Everything is immune while Guardian is alive so tank and kill him asap
Prince Taldaram
- Occasional vanish
- Summons a fire orb (like 5 man Kael) to avoid (though not as lethal)
Jedoga Shadowseeker - imo the 2nd "hard" boss you'll face
- She comes down after you clear the little aoe adds below her
- Some non-targettable adds come in and surround her too, more later
- Whirlwinds
- Spawns a circle of lighnting on ground, do not stand in it
- Every 25% she goes up into the air, one of the random adds will "activate" and move towards her. KILL ASAP. Can not be CC'd or slowed either, when they reach her she will go super mode! a.k.a like Vashj, or like Steamvaults last boss.
- 26K HP I believe
- I may have found this "hard" cause she's level 75 and I'm 71 at the time of this writing so might have gimped the dps a bit for this fight. Anyways, definitely not a place to fuck around and not kill what you're supposed to kill in this fight. (recieved a 20K hit when enraged)
Herold Volazj - Catch phrases: "Your friends will abandon you", "You will betray your friends", etc, imo a fairly fun fight
- Mind flays
- Every so often he does the "Insanity". Here's where phased fighting comes into play. You get ported into your own phased world with copies of your party. They got 4K hp and will attack you Kill all 4 and you get ported into one of your party's phased worlds and can help them kill the copies they got. After all 20 copies are killed, you face the boss again. Very fun mechanic imo.
Drak'Tharon Keep
Fairly straight foward place as well. Turn right, not left, iirc. You'll see. lol
Trollgore
- Summons waves of trolls
- Can do corpse explosion
Novos the Summoner
- Many adds come from both sides
- Occasionally a special mobs appear, key bearer? Shield bearer? Something, anyways, killing one of those destroys a crystal holding Novos.
- Kill 4 of em and he's released, no more adds come, existing adds remain though
- Nothing special then, stay out of blizzard
King Dred
- Fears
The Prophet Tharon'ja
- At intervals, he will turn you all into skeletons.
- You get unique abilites to use then including a taunt, bone armor, some life drain, and some attack
- Damage him enough and you go back to normal, repeat
- Aggro is reset each transition, so if you were tanking as a skelly, do stop before
Violet Hold
This is Black Morass 2.0. 18 portals. Boss at every 6th. Elite(s) spawning at portal you kill. Adds come out in the meantime to break the door behind you.
The trick is, the 1st and 2nd bosses are random. Randomly released from a set of 6 bosses in the prison. Anyways, I'll start with the last boss then work my way down the list for the others:
Cyanigosa:
- Typical blue dragon, don't be in front, don't be behind
- Constant Blizzard that moves around
- Teleports everyone to her center (Azuergos style) and aggro is reset
2 of the following will be randomly summoned:
Erekem: Skettis Birds
- Him and 2 adds, basically hard hitting bird guards
- Chain Lightning and stuff, easy fight
Lavanthor: Core Hound
- Don't be in front
- Drops a fire on the ground to move out of (Eredar Twins style)
Zuramat the Obliterator: Void Walker
- Summons adds that can only be killed if you get a debuff (ZG Jin'do style)
- Lots of AoE damage
Ichoron: Water Elementals
- Shield that reduces damage a lot, taken down by 35 hits
- After shield goes down, explodes into many water elementals
- Respawns as soon as any one of them reaches his body
- More elementals you take down, lower his health goes (Viscidus style)
- Heroic: Frostbolts hit everyone and harder. The elementals all explode for 1K damage each time they die and throws you back. Gets dangerous if multiple die at the same time.
Moragg: One Eyed Willy
- Tank and spank, couple beams that does more damage over time but no big deal
Xevozz: Ethereal
- An orb that follow the boss doing aoe, like 5 man Kael, just kite boss
- Heroic: Summons 3 orbs that follow you. Also random teleports you all together to the orbs. Kite boss away from orbs
Gundrak
Kind of a circular place where you take out 4 bosses along the way
Slad'ran
- Poisons
- Summons snake adds
Moorabi
- AoE quake
- Slows casting
- Turns into a mammoth
Drakkari Colossus
- "Turns" (releases) water elemental version
- Tank and kill to get boss to appear again
Eck the Ferocious
- Frontal AoE
Gal'darah
- Tank and spank
- Whirlwinds
- Summons a rhino
Halls of Stone
Seems kinda winged, can go in a few directions
Maiden of Grief
- AoE Repentence (Maiden of Virtue style)
- Big black void to get out of (M'uru style)
Kyrstallus
- Shatter (Gruul style)
The Tribunal of Ages
- Event to escort Brann Bronzebeard
- Lasers shoot you, avoid
- Adds come and come, kill
Sjonnir the Ironshaper
- Melee range AoE to run from
- Adds
Halls of Lightning
This place has lot's of say, optional trash to just skip. Heh, straight foward otherwise. After the 3rd boss, just clear towards the left side
General Bjarngrim
- Pats around the platforms in the first room
- Clear enough to make room for it
- Does Defensive/Berserker/Battle stances
- Whirlwinds
Volkhan
- Room before has fast spawning weak lava elemental things, just keep moving til the stairs
- He often runs to the anvil and resets aggro
- Summons weak adds
Ionar
- Some bomb aoe thing
- Disperses into several sparks that fly around and aoe damage, immune to all damage themselves though
- Just run around til he appears again
Loken
- Nature aura that does more damage the farther you're away from him
- AoE Lightning to run away from
Utgarde Pinnacle
Straight foward as well
Svala Sorrowgrave
- Occasionally flies up in the air while teleporting someone to the altar to be "sacrificed"
- A big sword slowly descends on the player (25 sec)
- 3 adds also appears channeling the alter, kill them, 8K hp
- I believe if they all die there's no damage taken (sword still drops), damage if more alive
- Heroic: Adds have 13K hp
Gortok Palehoof
- Clicking on the stasis event will activate the event
- First, he brings to life 2 of the animals there, one at a time
- I'm guessing it's random cause I saw 4.
- Kill them kill him, nothing that special.
- Some poisons, some aoe's, etc
- Heroic: All 4 will be brought to life one by one
Skadi the Ruthless
- This is a fun encounter
- It's like one of those SH gauntlets but with a twist
- First off, he'll do fly bys and just spray the ground (either left half or right half) of the gauntlet (Felmyst style). 4K initial hit, 1K dot if you remain in it, can heal through it
- During the gauntlet, there will be harpooner adds, kill them and they'll drop harpoons you can click to loot. Do that.
- At the end of gauntlet there'll be harpoon launchers, when Skadi is nearby on that side, shoot him. 4-5 will bring him down and then you face him. That'll stop the adds spawning too.
- Boss himself, well does the spinning moving whirlwind thing all around so run from that.
- Heroic: Occasional area ice bomb, otherwise just more of an endurance run with more hp / damage involved
King Ymiron
- Careful of the trash before him, they fear
- Nothing all that special, there's aoe
- Does "stun" everyone and releases a tomb or something
- Heroic: Bane is lethal, 2K shadow damage to anyone around if anyone hits him while he has it. Can be spellsteal or dispelled. Melee should probably wait it out. Also can release orbs that aoe in one of the boats so kite around when that happens
caverns of Time: The Culling of Stratholme
The Caverns of Time one and it runs pretty straight foward. The first quest you get wants to you uncover 5 crates. The quest tracker won't actually tell you that, but will complete when all are uncovered. Then you follow Arthas around a bit, then run back and forth killing undead till bosses show up. Then more following Arthas around.
Meathook
- Poison cloud
- Random stuns
Salramm the Fleshcrafter
- Shadow bolts
- Summons ghouls and blows them up
- Turns people into skeletons to reduce their damage
Chrono-Lord Epoch
- Increase ability costs
- Stops time
- Reduces attack speed
- Mortal Strike
Mal'ganis
- Anetheron basically
- Carrion swarm in front
- Random sleeps
- Heals for half damage he causes
The Oculus
A unique instance. Shortly in you'll get to take some drakes to ride around the place and killing blue dragons as well. Drakes also pretty much tell you where to head to next. It's linearity is kept though objectives to complete to move on to the next boss. The 3 drakes you can pick are Emerald (Healer), Ruby (Tank), and Amber (DPS), doesn't not matter what you choose til the end boss, can always switch it up.
Drakos the Interrogator
- Summons orb aoe bomb things like Mechanar boss but without the stairs
- Occasionally pulls everyone to him and throws out more bombs
- Heroic: Probably more bombs
Varos Cloudstrider
- Charges 1/4th of the platform at a time, 5 sec later major damage.
- Continues around the platform like that in a clockwise fashion
- So rotate around, standing center lets you move the least
- A big laser beam as well
- Heroic: The charged field is very lethal at 9K a tick, stay out, and more often
Mage-Lord Urom
- To engage him have to chase him around a bit and kill adds he summons til he's at the center platform
- Does an ice bomb which basically coats the floor with a frost trap and does increasing stacking damage
- Also a massive AoE that can be LoS'd with the rocks
- Heroic: Damage is increased, just kite around the platform (Grobullus style)
Ley-Guardian Eregos
- You fight using the abilites of your drake
- Remember different color drakes correspond to different roles
- Also whelp adds continueously spawn throughout the fight
- If your drake dies, you parachute out of there. Also if you can get OOC (vanish, FD, etc) you can rejoin the fight by summoning another drake.
- Heroic: About halfway through, he disppears and 5 orbs appear each following one of you. After a time they blow up for 40K damage (your drakes have 70K hp about), so it could kill you or severely hurt ya. Our strat was to have every fly out at the floating rocks distance and just circle around clockwise so we're randomly kiting orbs into each other. Also, the Drake combo we used was 2 reds, 2 greens, 1 yellow. 1 red to tank the boss, 1 red for the adds, 1 green to heal each red, and yellow just dps using the time stop at enrages.
That's all I got to do. Maybe others can fill in their info.
