Operation: Brutallus
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:15
Brutallus is a fairly simple fight, but very unforgiving. It is a Patchwerk 2.0. A gear check. We need the dps, we need the tanks not to get gibbed, and need the healers to heal through it all in a 6 minute span. Kinda like Archimonde where 1 death can wipe us, though not an obvious quick cascade of deaths like with soul charges, more of a slow grinding halt when the enrage timer creeps up.
He has 10,000,000 hp and a 6 minute enrage timer. That means it requires a 27,778 raid DPS.
It's a 2 tank fight, 7 healers, and the rest will be DPS. So on average, each dps has to output 1737 DPS on their own.
For the most part, it's tank and spank fight like a Teron. So should be one of the better optimal situations for any dps class. Stuff like [Elixir of Demonslaying], [Haste Potion], and [Destruction Potion] should be used liberally.
Abilities:
- Meteor Slash - A 30 yard frontal cone fire attack that does 20,000 damage split among all it hits. Also places a stacking debuff that increases fire damage taken by 75% for 30 seconds. 12 second CD.
- Burn - The new AIDS. A random target fire DOT that that ticks small at first but goes up slowly up to 6000. It also jumps to anybody within 2-3 yards of you during its duration. Can be cloaked, ice blocked, bubbled, resisted. Done approximately every 15 seconds.
- Stomp - Reduces armor of current target by 50% for 10 sec and does about 5K damage on a well geared tank. Removes Burn debuff. 30 second CD.
- Melee - He's a dual wielding boss. Attacks for about 6-8K MH, 3K OH. When the tank is Stomped, he can very well hit for 8-11K MH, 4-5K OH.
- Enrage - After 6 mins, 500% increase to damage, 150% increase to attack speed. Insta-gib!
Strategy:
There will be 3 groups. The melee group, the tank 1 group, and the tank 2 group.
The melee group just humps his butt. No tail lashes or anything. But spread out 2-3 yards all around him to the sides to avoid spreading Burns around.
The rest of the raid splits into half. One of them clumps up behind Tank 1 on one side, the other clumps up behind Tank 2 on the other. This is so you can all be hit by the Meteor Slash and reduce that 20K damage done on tank to a mere 2.5K ish to the raid. Though spread out just a bit while still being in range of the frontal cone attack.
Burn victims. If you can cloak/bubble/block out of it, do it. Otherwise, quickly move out of the group. If you're within 2-3 yards of each other it will spread. Preferably to a side where Brutallus will never be facing. Because the Meteor Slash fire debuff + 6K a tick Burns means you're screwed. This will probably be some assigned spot when we figure out our positioning.
After about 3 Meteor Slashes, the other tank taunts. Basically each tank tanks for about 30 seconds at a time to alllow for the Meteor Slash debuff to wear off.
And that's the fight. 6 mins of this.

Keisjaa — Thu, 06/26/2008 - 21:33yeah, hence why Orky suggested letting both ferals tank Brutallus for the sheer amount of damage mitigation they have(bask in the glory of plate gear..or...thick matted wet bear fur...same thing.
As for increasing my DPS there's very few upgrades left(the kalec pants, sunfire robe/gloves, trash wand ...all stuff we just don't see much)

SO with my amazing diagram >< what i am trying to show that
is we have the people with burn run to between the 2 groups behind the
melee we will be able to have healers from both groups target them. as
far as i have found this would keep them out of the meteor slash to
preven deaths. their isnt any reason i can find why we cant use the 2
burn healers + the aoe group healer not currently healing his group to
pick up the slack of these.
2 sets of hots plus some priest heals along with a clarification
that it is more important to not spread the fire than to get to burning
spot fast should limit our deaths to fire dramatically

HEALING INFO: There's only
Nhia (not verified) — Tue, 06/17/2008 - 11:26HEALING INFO:
There's only one tank at any given time in this encounter, so there's no need to assign some healers to one tank and some healers to the other. All four of your healers should be healing the tank with aggro. Assign one person (a priest works well) to swap a second or two early to make sure the taunting tank has a heal coming, but other than that all tank healers should be healing Brutallus' target.
Tank healers should never interrupt a heal on this fight. You spam non-stop for 6 minutes, choosing ranks as appropriate depending on whether stomp is up and depending on what you can sustain. It is impossible to cancel-cast in this encounter - Brutallus simply has too much burst potential to ever cancel a cast safely. Personally I think it's more important to not interrupt heals than to try to stagger them perfectly (we use 3 tank healers and two shamans chain healing through the tank, so the chance of nothing landing for 2 seconds is exceptionally low) but other guilds use the focus frames to stagger heals and it works for them.
Another Note:
Have to agree with Anedris, the flow of heals to the current tank should never stop. If there is a danger of running oom, make sure that they are using full mana pots, even Dark Runes if needed, and intelligently downranking. We have a priest that switches when the OT calls "taunting in 5 seconds", and a paladin that switches after the taunt to top-off the previous MT. With correct positioning 2 shamans with chains can keep the slash groups topped off as well.
The gaps in heals are definitely due to cast-cancel errors, and with how fast and hard he hits, even 1.2 seconds without a heal can be fatal. It's entirely possible to get Stomp, and then MH+OH in the same 1 second window.
ALSO:
We might want to have one resto druid w/ insect swarm for stomp. Reducing his chance to hit. Since he's duel wielding. I read on EJ that this with Afflction lock, scorpid sting, thunder clap and demo shout are all massive to ensure your tank survives.

Dragon — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 14:21No, kybosh gets the greater benefit of getting more rage. Trust me you want to keep Ky with the heroism chains

saedo — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 14:36Hmm might have to look into it more. Blood Frenzy MS warriors mean only 15% haste into Flurry. So it's a matter of 15% + 2H rage mechanics vs 30% dual wielding haste.

Karli — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 13:01Rupter, I don't have a direct answer to your question. I don't have time to do it now, but what I plan to do to help us plan as a whole is try and pour through some other guild's parses of brutallus and see what kind of raid makeup they used. Should be interesting.

Dragon — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:56Saedo I am pretty sure that Enhancement Shaman flurry never got the nerf that warrior flurry did.
So Kybosh should get 25% haste and Turth should get 30% haste

saedo — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 13:07I didn't know there was a nerf. lol Ok even better then. More haste than I thought for the G5.
Hmm now that I know this. Then who gets switched out for Heroisms becomes obvious. It would be Kybosh. The rogues and Turth would recieve the most benefit out of Heroisms.
That was what I was
Disrupter — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:45That was what I was implying, that I could maintain it for the entire duration of a heroism, but, I guess that not every other mage can do that.. only one with cold snap.
I'll just go arcane and beg for a spriest so I can pew pew more :P.
On the arcane subject, with Karlizeth as arcane, and assuming two shadow priests, that'd leave 7 slots left for healers to get said shadow priests. Is this an extremely mana intensive healing fight? I don't want to do something like spec arcane if it's going to hurt healing or something.
Lightning Breath has no
Shihli — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:36Lightning Breath has no cooldown other than GCD, so one pet would eat both charges. Lumi's serpent will do more damage than one that I would bring, and furthermore I'm not about to abandon my pig, ghost wolf, or ghost cat for a serpent ;)
I think this is one fight
Nhia (not verified) — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:16I think this is one fight where we might want to put a shaman in the tank grp, for more avoidance on tanks. That shamans heroism can be supplied to the melee grp for MAX dps and prolly the best way to utilize it. imo. :)
Is it better to have 1 or 2
Nhia (not verified) — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:11Is it better to have 1 or 2 hunters w/ that pet?
What's going to improve MAX dps?!?!?!
And I think heroism rotations on melee is kinda up to how much dps our casters are really pushing. Like Karli said...some are lacking, but could easily adjust gems/gear to get max dps.
Just something to think about, i guess.
I'll let Lumi's serpent eat
Shihli — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:08I'll let Lumi's serpent eat the Stormstrike charges.
I can use shadow word pain.
chrislow — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:05I can use shadow word pain. That's ~.5-.6 extra raid dps. For the win! Right?
Would a double icy veins
Disrupter — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:10Would a double icy veins (20% haste) and 198 haste (12% haste) be enough haste to benefit from a hero?
Can you keep it up for an
saedo — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:20Can you keep it up for an entire 40 seconds Heroism is active? And can everyone in your group do the same?
Here's the haste benefits I'm thinking of:
Rogue: 35% haste Slice and Dice (we all have 2 pc T6), 100% uptime.
Warrior / Enh Shaman: 25% / 30% haste from Flurry, it is a chance on crit, but I belive the math is at 34% crit rate, you get a 95% uptime. I assume Kybosh and Turth are near or above that value when raid buffed.
Hunters might want to think
Nhia (not verified) — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:09Hunters might want to think about using serpents. W/ the extra dmg they do and the fact we will prolly have turth there w/ his stormstrike.
Especially since we dont have an elemental shaman. Here is some chatter on Elitest Jerks.
[Hunter/Shaman] Wind Serpents with DPS Shammies
Stack a caster group packing
Agoney — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 08:17Stack a caster group packing haste for hero, anyone above 200 as well. 2.6s MFs at moment, cant wait to see it in the 1s with hero.
The only thing thats sucks about teron and gauging is the fact if anyone screws up their constructs, its usually aggroing onto one of the spriests thanks to VE. I spent most of that fight trying to avoid getting meleed once that happens.
The casters would all need
saedo — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 09:28The casters would all need at least 383 haste rating (upwards to 536 rating) to match the benefits Heroism would give group 5.
But still, % based stacked on % based gives largest benefit. It's a bit different from % based haste stacked on haste rating. How haste works is that it adds up all the haste rating, gives that a single percentage. Then stacks all the % based you got like abilites + rating + heroism. So % + % is what really drives up the haste.
