Operation: Brutallus
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:15
Brutallus is a fairly simple fight, but very unforgiving. It is a Patchwerk 2.0. A gear check. We need the dps, we need the tanks not to get gibbed, and need the healers to heal through it all in a 6 minute span. Kinda like Archimonde where 1 death can wipe us, though not an obvious quick cascade of deaths like with soul charges, more of a slow grinding halt when the enrage timer creeps up.
He has 10,000,000 hp and a 6 minute enrage timer. That means it requires a 27,778 raid DPS.
It's a 2 tank fight, 7 healers, and the rest will be DPS. So on average, each dps has to output 1737 DPS on their own.
For the most part, it's tank and spank fight like a Teron. So should be one of the better optimal situations for any dps class. Stuff like [Elixir of Demonslaying], [Haste Potion], and [Destruction Potion] should be used liberally.
Abilities:
- Meteor Slash - A 30 yard frontal cone fire attack that does 20,000 damage split among all it hits. Also places a stacking debuff that increases fire damage taken by 75% for 30 seconds. 12 second CD.
- Burn - The new AIDS. A random target fire DOT that that ticks small at first but goes up slowly up to 6000. It also jumps to anybody within 2-3 yards of you during its duration. Can be cloaked, ice blocked, bubbled, resisted. Done approximately every 15 seconds.
- Stomp - Reduces armor of current target by 50% for 10 sec and does about 5K damage on a well geared tank. Removes Burn debuff. 30 second CD.
- Melee - He's a dual wielding boss. Attacks for about 6-8K MH, 3K OH. When the tank is Stomped, he can very well hit for 8-11K MH, 4-5K OH.
- Enrage - After 6 mins, 500% increase to damage, 150% increase to attack speed. Insta-gib!
Strategy:
There will be 3 groups. The melee group, the tank 1 group, and the tank 2 group.
The melee group just humps his butt. No tail lashes or anything. But spread out 2-3 yards all around him to the sides to avoid spreading Burns around.
The rest of the raid splits into half. One of them clumps up behind Tank 1 on one side, the other clumps up behind Tank 2 on the other. This is so you can all be hit by the Meteor Slash and reduce that 20K damage done on tank to a mere 2.5K ish to the raid. Though spread out just a bit while still being in range of the frontal cone attack.
Burn victims. If you can cloak/bubble/block out of it, do it. Otherwise, quickly move out of the group. If you're within 2-3 yards of each other it will spread. Preferably to a side where Brutallus will never be facing. Because the Meteor Slash fire debuff + 6K a tick Burns means you're screwed. This will probably be some assigned spot when we figure out our positioning.
After about 3 Meteor Slashes, the other tank taunts. Basically each tank tanks for about 30 seconds at a time to alllow for the Meteor Slash debuff to wear off.
And that's the fight. 6 mins of this.

Update: Downfall Brut Positions:

Well, heres my problem with
Disrupter — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 11:46Well, heres my problem with that Saedo. I'm hoping to reach the required dps mark from a mage on Brutallus, no way in hell I'm going to reach that mark without a shaman for heroism. So hopefully if we decided to only heroism the melee group, the other dps groups are still doing enough damage to kill the fucker.
I sure as hell hope no one gives any dpsers a hard time for their dps when they don't have all the possible buffs they can get :P.
I'm not talking about trying
saedo — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 11:53I'm not talking about trying to boost everyone to 2K dps. I'm not interested in boosting the lower dps people just to make them look a little better. I'm talking big picture, about how to boost the overall RAID dps to over 28K dps.
So Brutallus needs 1737 DPS on average from each dps. Average. So if one guy is doing 2600 DPS, we can bring a guy with 874 DPS and we'll still get that 1737 DPS average.
I'm talking mathematically, who would recieve the most absolute biggest boost for raid dps. Not how to get a few people above some threshold.
Why would you rotate
starstalker — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 17:35Why would you rotate heroism for just group 5? From looking at the dps, I dont think the members of group 5 are lacking in dps anyways.
If its the non-arcane mages, non-bm hunters, and the shadow priests that are having problems (if any), wouldn't you want to stick the heroisms into that group?
To give the biggest raid
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 17:42To give the biggest raid boost. Rather than simply upping the the ones "having problems". Group 5 generally has % based haste active on them at all times. Slice and Dice, Flurry, etc. Heroism is another % based haste. Stacking % haste with % haste gives the largest benefit.
Should we use the Teron on
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 16:40Should we use the Teron on Friday as a benchmark? Bring the pots, the flasks, do what you gotta do. Rotate heroisms on G5? Use no more than 7 healers? Achieve the highest dps you can possibly get.
Remember that the taunt
garreth — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 16:57Remember that the taunt rotation on Brutallus is what contributes much to very high aggro cieling for the raid. Since the taunts are a ridiculously high threat gen while they last, there's A LOT of dps room. I don't think we can taunt Teron.
Yea can't taunt Teron.
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 17:30Yea can't taunt Teron. But, for those that never really hit the aggro ceiling on a Teron anyways. Well it's a challenge if we wanna take it.
The highest Teron benchmarks used like 3 healers and the rotated Heroisms, just to get high on the scoreboard.
Hmm, maybe give the MT group a shaman too. WF, and pop Heroism at the start for him.
I've gotten 2K dps pretty
Karli — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 16:09I've gotten 2K dps pretty consistently on any tank and spank fight when all I do is sit there and spam spells. A 6 minute enrage timer plus a shadow priest means I will have enough mana to do so as well.
To be quite honest I'm not worried about myself a whole lot. It's the other raiders that have yet to crack the 1500 mark. What can we do to up their dps?
Once I do a few things I
Shihli — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 16:08Once I do a few things I should be golden for 1700+ dps on Brut:
1) Stop being lazy and get ready to chug pots again
2) Tweak my gear setup for optimal dps
3) Grab a bow off Arch/Illy
4) Nose to the grindstone focus on my shot rotation
5) Start using my pet again (165+ dps right there)
Yeah, for p1 of Illidan my
Agoney — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 15:19Yeah, for p1 of Illidan my recount shows me hovering b/w 1500-1600 dps, and thats without destro pots the majority of the time. New pants I picked up last night are HELLA increase, 52 more haste, more dmg. Spriest cap is also near 1700-1800 dps in perfect gear, so we're almost nearing that already.
Aren't mages supposed to be
Disrupter — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 15:54Aren't mages supposed to be near ~2k dps at this gear level? According to my Rawr with my current gear set up I could , supposedly, hit that point. But...... I can't seem to actually achieve such a high dps....
Even as Arcane I was only able to do that kind of dps, on some of the short fights in Hyjal, and considering the healers will probably need the shadow priests, I won't spec it and expect to get one...
I'm open to suggestions... *Queues Karli's Entrance*
Should be a pretty easy boss
Ewiges — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 14:30Should be a pretty easy boss for us, everyone who I talked to that has downed him said we have the DPS for him and shouldn't struggle much. I can't wait to kill him (kalecgos too).
Remember for melee to get
Gares of War — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 14:26Remember for melee to get demon slaying elixirs. I know more people flask but that would countto your dps considerably.
I believe it works for
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 14:29I believe it works for hunters too.
We are geared well enough to
Tankard — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 13:56We are geared well enough to do this. In our best Teron fight that Saedo posted the link to we were 4K over the necessary dps.
Teron is a lower armored
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 14:17Teron is a lower armored boss. So all physical dps takes a hit. I think I estimated before with the amount of physical dps we usually bring, we'd need like 29.5K raid dps on Teron to match a Brutallus kill.
But I do think we can do this. So far we've had 2 Terons above the mark, one at 29K, one at 31K. We've got top notch DPS. Though I'm looking for a more consistent 30K Teron kills to be more sure of it. But with the right set up, we have the potential. DPS wise.
Healer/Tank wise, probably? Tanks takes a fuckton of damage. There's a lot of raid damage going around. 7 Healers gotta heal though it all in the 6 minute time span. Pretty much no one can afford to die.
But anyways, don't slack off. Farm your pots/elixirs. Brutallus can die very soon!
I hear rubbing Brutallus'
Gares of War — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 12:37I hear rubbing Brutallus' belly and giving him a treat helps.
Most of the reason I sit
Shihli — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 12:01Most of the reason I sit below 1700 dps is due to the fact that I sit on AotV 90% of the time.
For Brut I'd have AotH up at all times, chugging pots and all that.
Something that concerns
garreth — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:46Something that concerns me:
Looking over successful Brutallus parses that include shadow priests, I'm seeing the priests at >1400 dps. I don't think I've seen Keisj or Ag over 1.1 k ever. Is this an issue at all?
Ok for parses I tend to look
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 12:06Ok for parses I tend to look for "lower dps" ones cause they're the first kills, the ones when they are learning it, the ones closest to our gear level.
I'm choosing this for now: http://wowwebstats.com/jlhixxlj43av3?s=12497-12879
The 2 shadow priests are at 1195 dps and 1344 dps.
In our best Teron: http://wowwebstats.com/tnm3rngx61n4o?s=7009-7210
Ag got 1407 dps while Keis got 1224 dps.
So I think they're fine. Especially without much of a threat cap issue and they prob weren't chugging everything they can during that Teron too.
Gear difference?
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:49Gear difference?
As a note: Because of the
garreth — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:40As a note: Because of the constant taunting (and its massive, temporary aggro boost to the new tank) DPS pretty much has full balls-to-the-wall freedom to go nuts.
Hmmm, that's more testicle references than normal for me.
Hybrids are key here, but have to be carefully balanced. I've seen 2k+ dps from a few rogues and a warlock, with some hunters and mages coming very close. Our hybrids won't be able to hit these numbers, but they're making everyone else hit that much harder.
Are we going to do the feral+warrior tank strat? Does Nightfall even matter anymore? It couldn't hurt, I guess.
According to Pudo/Epat,
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:47According to Pudo/Epat, Nightfall didn't proc at all in Hyjal when he used it. So it seems pretty pointless.
Feral + warrior works. Just means we need more dps from the rest of us, which could just mean more time to gear up for it. Feral + feral does give us a bit more slack (aka less gear). So the question really is how optimal, well how hard core, do we wanna be?
