coming changes to healers
moriella — Thu, 01/29/2009 - 18:50
I think we are going to see HUGE healing changes in 3.1, not so much as reworking it totally , as that would take too much development at this time. From the reading I've been doing on the forums and sorta wartching blizz since 2004, I'd like to make the following 'educated guesses' about what is coming
1. Replenishment is going to be nerfed into the ground, and frankly may even cease to exist as we know it.
2. Holy Pallies thruput and efficiency going to be nerfed
3. Difficulty is going to be ramped up maybe 25% overall however ..... instead of 25 mans with 5-7 healers, guilds will run with 7-10 healers.
By nerfing mana regen again Blizz is going to force raids to being more healers, which will result in lower dps, making fights go longer making mana more of an issue.
The next content is going to be balanced totally on the healers again.
There have been enough blue comments recently about the above issues that in reading between the lines, one can clearly see it on the wall.
Blizz TRIED to balance mana use by nuking pots in 3.0 - due to the replenishment mechanic, crazy efficiency on pallies and disc, the nerf to regen really didnt hurt at all. Good healers adapted quickly and started stacking intel to max the returns from replen.
This will be 'attempt 2' to make content more difficult due to mana /healing issues. We all know Blizz sometimes makes wide crazy swings, look for this one to be severe.
Love your healers, brush off your alts. I predict we will be stacking healers of all types again soon
Lava Crab tonite will likely comprise Archavon, Malygos, and Sartharion. Possible 3-drake attempts as well depending on who all comes.
Karvinen and Luminaire *MAY NOT* be able to attend, so we might be in the business of needing one very competent healer and one very strong dps'er!
Please sign up if you are interested in filling one of those roles.
greifing at the Naxx summon stone
moriella — Thu, 01/29/2009 - 07:35
Last night as we were getting everyone into Naxx , several of us were typhooned/feared etc INTO the instance portal. It happened to me at least twice. We joked about it abit in raid and someone even made the comment 'stupid horde dont realize they are typhooning me the WRONG way.'
Well guys, it's a griefing tactic and I wanted to bring it up here before it happens to YOU.
Naxx is an odd instance in that it doesnt save you to a raid when you kill the first boss. It saves you ON ENTRANCE. Griefers are hoping you are not saved and not yet in your raid. If you are unsaved to an instance, and not yet a member of raid - you could very easily lose your shot at naxx for the week as once you zone in you get a raid instance number. If it's diff to that of your nights raid - you are hosed.
I predict if it's not patched, next tuesday, when no one is assigned an instance yet - w/o proper precautions this could be huge, that is - if it doesnt happen to a guildie before then. For safety safe - be in raid before you even fly to the naxx stone area.
If you are in a 25 man raid and the instance is not set for heroic and you get zoned in - you could be saved to a 10 man if you havnt done it yet for the week. I hope this did not happen to any of us last night unknowingly
Due to the lack of ranged DPS we are looking at right now I wanted to give some of us a backup option. Naxx 10 if the 25 is not going to happen. Would love if this was just Fam Aggro people but will take anyone to get in and grab some gear and badges.

This is just going to be a quick 10 man Malygos kill, no achievements or anything. I'm looking to grab as many experienced people as I can, but if I have room I won't hesitate to snag you to get this done with.
I'm gonna aim for 4:30ish, and invites will go out at my leisure up to 15 minutes before start time.
If you sign up for this event, I expect you to know the strategy, and most specifically, what to do in phase 3 when we get there.
People I'd like to see sign up:
Ataraxia: Tank
Katibug: Healer
Garreth: Healer
Grasen: Dps
Poisondonut: Dps
3-4 More DPS and/or 1-2 More Healers. Depending on raid composition.
Lava Crab will be running this Sunday at 2:30pm server time!
Invites are extended to most any alt and offspec raider, given that they meet two conditions:
1) They are suitably geared for a 10-man raid (read: a fair amount of high-level quest/dungeon gear and heroic gear);
and
2) Raid requirements are generally met. "Raid requirements" being GENERALLY, 2 tanks, 3 healers, 5 dps. If exceptionally-geared and knowledgable healers should come (e.g. regular Lava Crabbers and 25-man raiders), only two healers will be required.
I may ask people to meet specific specs (e.g. if we only had one tank and Nuitarin wanted to come as a boomkin, we may ask him to be a bear instead for two tanks).
LASTLY! Loot. Loot is more or less free-for-all, with the EXCEPTION of gear that will be used by a 25-man raider for their 25-man raid job. For example, I would personally use [39401] and [39417], so I would ask that people would only roll on those items if they were a 25-man raider with the intent to use it in that raid environment.
Rest assured, most Lava Crabbers don't need much (if any) gear generally, so the strong majority of the crap that drops will be open to alts, offspecs, you name it.
Again, invites go out at about 2:30pm server. See you there.
Sartharion-10 man, 3-drake ... strategy/discussion thread
Shihli — Fri, 01/16/2009 - 00:37
So I've been reading up on Sartharion-10 man, 3-drakes.
Seems that many successful groups run with 3 tanks, 3 healers, and 4 dps. The idea is to get Tenebron to ~30-40% before Shadron lands, and ultimately kill Tenebron before he spawns two sets of whelps. Once Tenebron goes down the dps moves to Shadron, burns him down ASAP. Then they enter the portal, kill Shadron's disciple, then head up top and kill Vesperon. Once Vesperon is down, they hit the portal and kill his disciple, then kill Sartharion like normal.
This sounds like a decent enough plan to me, however I want the rest of my Lava Crab crew (and ultimately, any other guildie that is interested in the future) to start compiling notes and thoughts here, to see if we can't streamline our strat so that next week, we can enter Sarth-10 3-D and down it, and be the second (I think) guild on the server to do so.
So here's what I was thinking. Here's the typical "Lava Crab" raid setup:
Tanks:
- Nuitarin
- Necroshiliac
- Hbk (for this fight)
Healers:
- Karvinen
- Moriella
- Zildo
DPS:
- Disrupta
- Saedo
- Luminaire
- Quisjaa
My thinking was this: Karvinen on MT heals, with a Beacon on the drake tank (Necroshiliac). I should generally stay within 40yds-ish of Nuitarin, who will be Sarth tanking. Zildo will be raid/flame-tank (Hbk) healing. Moriella will generally stay on Nuitarin, with support heals on everyone else.
The other option would be to have Mori be CoH specced for this fight and have him raid heal, and have Zildo be another MT healer.
As far as killing the adds is concerned, we wouldn't "focus" on it much - when adds start getting a bit out of control, Hbk would call for an adds round, and myself and Quisjaa would move close enough to Pestilence, Blood Boil, and Death-and-Decay the adds. That much AoE would generally be enough to kill them.
Anyone else have any ideas?
