Project: Rogue Tank
saedo — Wed, 05/07/2008 - 16:07
So, just for fun, I'm gonna start working on an avoidance set. It'll be done on my own time, using heroic badges and whatnot, nothing else to spend on now anyways. Maybe pick some stuff off NRP if the opportunity arises. This blog will be my checklist of sorts and calculations thrown in.
The Goal: 101.8% avoidance. Which for a rogue means, Dodge, Parry, and Miss Rate only. Defense is only about 75% as effective due to no ability to block. With avoidance, it'd make 1% Dodge = 1% Parry = 1% Miss Rate = 1% Avoidance.
The Macro:: This would be the in game macro that will help you monitor your avoidance. Doesn't count for Scorpid Sting or Insect Swarm, but you can manually add that in with a +5 +2 in there if you wish.
/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Need 101.8 combined avoidance. Currently at:",0.8,0.8,1)
/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(GetDodgeChance() + GetBlockChance() + GetParryChance() + 5 + floor(GetCombatRatingBonus(CR_DEFENSE_SKILL)) * 0.04,1,0.5,0)
My Spec: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=f0eboZ0xxZxrxohuRoxsx
Agility: 20 agi = 1% dodge. Assuming Sinister Calling (15% more agi) and Kings (10% more), we essentially get that 1 agi on gear = 1x0.1x0.15) = 1.265 agi on paper. So, 1 agi = 1.265 * (1% / 20) Dodge = 0.06325% Avoidance.
Dodge Rating: 18.92307854 = 1% dodge. So, 1 dodge rating = 1% / 18.92307854 = 0.052845523% Avoidance
Defense Rating: 2.365385056 = 1 Defense = 0.04% Dodge + 0.04% Parry + 0.04% Miss Rate = 0.12% Avoidance. So 1 defense rating = 0.12% / 2.365385056 = 0.050731697% Avoidance
Parry Rating: 23.65384674 = 1% parry. So, 1 parry rating = 1% / 23.65384674 = 0.042276421% Avoidance.
Chronicles of Tuque - Path of Holy
saedo — Sat, 04/26/2008 - 00:03
So I spec'd Holy. Full out holy down to, um, well as much of that Int -> Healing talent I can get atm. Here's some rambling thoughts of my experience so far.
Killing is definitely slower. Though, I kinda find there's less downtime. Don't have to sit and drink as much. Also taking on mobs many levels above me seems a bit more dangerous.
I also went through a ZF run. Hmm at this level I gotta say healing is boring. lol People aren't taking damage fast enough and I can heal 1/2 - 1/3 of their health in one go when needed. I found myself alt-tabbing a lot during this run. lol
So with this spec I got this new toy Divine Favor. Not sure when to use it though. I tried a few times with my group but letting them go to low makes em nervous. They always pop their own heal before I get my big fat crit on em wasting it. lol
Oh well level 47 atm!
Chronicles of Tuque - Prot Healing
saedo — Sun, 04/20/2008 - 03:27
So I got into an Uldaman group and had to be the healer. It was... less painful than I would've thought. lol With me being prot spec, only having a mish mash of crappy "healer" gear, and having no real experience before with healing, I fully expected to be the cause of many wipes. lol
At first it was suprisingly boring. lol I'd stand around waiting for the tank to get hit enough before I'd cast my 800ish max rank holy light heal on him (lvl 39 arms warrior). Maybe it was just Uldaman nowadays. Another suprising thing was that I rarely ran out of mana. Only really ran out when I had to branch out and heal the dps and stuff.
So overall, no wipes, tank only died once, cause I started slow then some mobs stunned me. Anyways, some random cliff notes:
Chronicles of Tuque - Arathi Edition
saedo — Fri, 04/04/2008 - 01:09
Heh well I kinda lost track in the old post and with 2.4 out now I will be distracted since primary focus is kinda back on dailies with the rogue. So that would skew the days against levelling this toon. So just decided to make random blurbs whenever.
So I started to quest in the Arathi Highlands, and the Horde there just wanna kill me. Well, they tried. lol
Encounter 1 - So I was killing trolls for the quest, mage starts fireballing me. I focus on him, whack him a few times with mobs still on me. He made the mistake of aoe'ing. So I bubbled and they went for him. But he ran away while I chased and we eventually lost the mobs. So back to 1 on 1. Well he couldn't kill me, I'd heal through his attacks. I rarely was able to get close to hit him w/o BoF up. Eventually he evocated, gave me enough time to drink too. He'd try to kite me into horde friendly mobs too. Finally we both kinda sat down and drank again. By now he's given up. lol Starts waving at me, greeting hello, etc. Then we went our seperate ways.
Encounter 2 - This time 2 mages spotted me and wanted me dead. I ran through a shitload of mobs, threw a concecrate then gauded them into aoe'ing. lol I bubble, they all went for them and slaughtered them, while I watched and healed myself, then finished off the mobs for my quest after their "help". lol
Anyways, I hit 40 tonight. Got that free mount. Well I gotta say, I don't really like how the female Draenei looks on a horse. Kinda has this wide stiff spread eagle thing going. Heh, so I went and got myself a purple elekk. Definitely fits the model more since the thing is wider.
Rogues are Easy
saedo — Wed, 04/02/2008 - 12:59
Heh so I was on vent that night but I ain't as quick witted to respond. lol But this topic's been on the back of my mind so I'll just blurt stuff out here.
Rogues are easy. Easiest dps class imo, which is part of the reason why rogues can top damage most of the time. Most only really have to pay attention to 3-5 timers, 3-5 buttons to mash. And I've raided in every raid spec there is cept for maces. Don't have to care about mana, cast times, swing timers, rage starvation, shot clipping, pets, buffing, other ppl's health bars, etc. In the most dire of situations where ppl are out of "gas", rogues can still dps (barring the get the fuck out of there situations). We are an unlimited source of dps.
But getting the most dps out of a rogue is another matter. Why are the top dps rogues in top guilds? Why can bad healers stick with top guilds? Because of natural selection. There's a fuck ton of rogues out there. If you can't strive to the top, then look, there's another one right around the corner. Bad healer? Replace him? Well typical follow up question, where do you find another? Guilds will tend to work most strats around what healers (and tanks) are capable of, not what dps does.
The Chronicles of Tuque
saedo — Sun, 03/02/2008 - 06:03
Well, I rolled a pally alt. So thought I'd make a pally blog! All about the trials and tribulations that turn up as this dps class tries to level a non-dps (sorta) class.
Day 1 (Level 11):
So, created it as Draenei. First thing I got was this Seal of Righteousness. Dang this is a bit disappointing as a yellow attack. lol Basically just auto attacking and it adds a bit more holy damage on top of it.
Couple levels later I get this Seal of Crusader. Hmm, AP and attack speed boost but lowers damage... I'm thinking this is prob better for slow 2 handers? While SoR could be better for those faster one handers.
So grinding on mobs, this is the cycle I come up with. SoC, Judgement, SoR, Judge, repeat SoR. That any good? Crusader to boost holy damage so more dmg from SoR.
Anyways, have to put in talent points now. Where to put those first points? And what would be the spec to level with? I assume ret for better solo grinding. Though that could defeat the whole purpose of this experience. lol Insane to jump into holy? Or maybe start prot? Or some mix with all 3 trees?
Day 2 (Level 15):
So I spec'd down the Holy tree. Doesn't seem that interesting yet, nothing really helping my healing so far. Ya 10% more int, but at this level it's like 2 more int. lol
Speaking of int, so what exactly is healing gear at this level? So far all the quest mail armor pretty much has stam and str, guess good for the tanking/dps portions. Only int could help with the mana pool but I've only seen cloth having it so far. Should I just be wearing cloth? Or just wait it out until some real healing gear comes along?
