03 - Ignis the Furnace Master Strategy Guide

saedo's picture

saedo — Fri, 04/03/2009 - 16:07

Health:

  • Heroic:  24M
  • Normal:  6.9M

Abilities:

  • Flame Jets:  Stomps the ground causing geysers of flame to errupt under all enemies. These geysers deal 8483 to 9517 Fire damage, knocking the targets into the air and interrupting any spells being cast for 8 sec. In addition, the targets take 2000 Fire damage per second for 8 sec. 2.7 sec cast
  • Scorch:  Fires a jet of flame, burning all enemies in front of the caster within 30 yards, dealing 3770 to 4230 Fire damage every half-second for 3 sec. Additionally, the ground is scorched by this effect causing it to catch on fire, dealing 7540 to 8460 Fire damage every second to all enemies within 13 yards. Iron Constructs within this radius will begin to heat up, eventually becoming molten.
  • Slag Pot:  Charges and grabs a random enemy target, tossing them into the caster's slag pot. The target is unable to attack the caster and takes 7500 Fire damage every second for 10 sec. If the target survives, they are imbued with the magical slag, increasing their haste by 150% for until cancelled.
  • Strength of the Creator:  Increases Ignis' damage by 15% each time an Iron Construct spawns. Stacks up to 99 times.

Iron Contructs:

  • Heat:  Blasts all nearby Iron Constructs with intense heat, increasing their movement speed by 5% and haste by 5%. This effect stacks up to 20 times. If this effect stacks to 20, the affected Iron Construct will become Molten
  • Molten:  The Iron Construct becomes Molten, increasing haste by 100%. In addition, Flames errupt out from the caster every second, dealing 4713 to 5287 Fire damage to enemies within 7 yards. Drag the Construct in the water and it will become Brittle.
  • Brittle:  The cold water causes molten Iron Constructs to rapidly solidify, rendering them unable to act. In addition, if they are dealt more than 5000 damage during this state, they will shatter, dealing 18850 to 21150 damage to all enemies in a 10 yard radius.
  • Shatter:  Deals 18850 to 21150 Physical damage to all enemies within 10 yards. Damage from this effect ignores armor.

The Fight:

This is mostly a tank and spank fight, but can hit the tank hard, upwards of 30K.   He will occasionally scorch the ground in front of him, so just move away.

Casters need to pay attention to Flame Jets timer, when it goes off it'll interrupt any spell casting for 8 seconds.   They are spells that are resistable or whatever spell avoidance immunity you got.   So use em to help mitigate damage.

Randomly charges and throws someone in the slag pot dealing 5000 damage per second, so heal him.  Should he live, he'll get a haste buff.    You can cast in it still, and use spells that make you immune, however if you do anything to remove the debuff, you will not get the buff afterwards (haste), and will not get the personal achievement.

There are constructs in the room he'll activate.   Each one active increases his damage by 15%, off tank em.

The way to kill those is to drag em into the scorched ground til they become Molten (stack to 20), then drag them to the pools of water.   They'll be rendered unable to act for 15 sec, so run away and ranged blow em up, a single 5K hit will kill it.   Not collective damage, a single hit.

We settled on more of a 3 point drop off locations for the scorch.   Left, Center, Right sides of the pool of water, both sides, and dropping it about 3 times between each pool on either side.   This keeps the scorches relatively close so the OTs can drag Constructs into them before they wear off.   The raid mostly stands in the middle, with only some healers and DPS to move in range for shattering Constructs.

The Trash:

There's a pair of fire giants, and a few pairs of golems, and pairs of elementals.    Here's the quick and dirty versions...

Fire Giants:  Tank em apart, they do a damaging fire aura to everyone in range.    Even after death so stay away from their corpses.

Golems:  Charged people and put a slowing attack speed debuff on tank.  Nothing huge.

Elementals:  These have a trick we remember.   They spawn out 2 fire cyclones that knock you around and do I believe 7K damage per tick.    Run away run away.   Melee could run away, but I kind of found when they spawn, they aren't really that lethal, they knock you way back.    So as long as the cyclones aren't chasing you down in particular to get hit again, just run back.

Achievements:

Shattered:  Defeat Ignis the Furnace Master after shattering 2 Iron Constructs within 5 seconds on Normal/Heroic Difficulty.

This does not require you to kill Ignis within that timeframe either.  It's only asking you to shatter 2 within 5 seconds.   Then don't wipe.     So easiest thing is to gather 2, drag em to fire, then blow em up.  Then continue the rest of the fight normally.

Hot Pocket:  Survive being thrown into Ignis the Furnace Master's Slag Pot on Normal/Heroic Difficulty

This would be a personal achievement.  Part luck to be chosen, part healers to heal you through it.   Do not use bubbles (or equivalent) to escape it if you want this achievement.

Stokin' the Furnace:  Defeat Ignis the Furnace Master in 4 minutes on Normal/Heroic Difficulty

Just a straight dps it down in time thing.   Quite easy once this fight is on farm, don't really even need special stacking if you got decent dps.

Added a bit on what we

saedo — Fri, 05/01/2009 - 02:32

Added a bit on what we learned for Shattered.

Just means we kill 2 within 5 sec and don't wipe.    Don't have to kill Ignis in that time frame.   So blow up 2, continue the fight normally.

And I guess this page is complete. all strats and achievements accounted for.   Well, the numbers for his attacks are off cause of all the nerfs that happened to this boss.   Oh well, this was when it was hard!  ;p

I added achievements for

saedo — Fri, 04/17/2009 - 12:35

I added achievements for this, and comments on what we found to do in LC and others.

Basically Nuit was dropping the scorches 3 sides on either pool and in between I believe.   Keeps the scorches close together for OTs to drag em in before they wear off.   Raid for the most parts stays in the middle unless healing OTs or dps for the Constructs need range.

Also, notes of Hot Pocket achievements / haste buff.   If you do use an ability to escape it, you won't get either.

This is quite a workable fight since tanks no longer get one shot.

Do we know if Ignis is fixed

garreth — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 13:16

Do we know if Ignis is fixed yet?  And if he's fixed, is he killable by us?

Desteran's picture

We've made some changes to

Desteran — Thu, 04/16/2009 - 15:45
We've made some changes to Ignis' melee attack on Heroic. We reduced his overall melee DPS by about 15% and he swings faster which will make his individual hits less devastating.
In normal mode we increased the cooldown of Activate Construct from 30 to 40 seconds.
We also decreased the damage of the Scorch ground effect by 20% on both difficulties.

On a side note, Ignis has always had the flag that prevents parries from making his next melee swing happening faster.

We're still working on the people being melee'd in the slag pot issue, this one is proving tricksy.

15% is more than enough to

garreth — Thu, 04/16/2009 - 16:21

15% is more than enough to make this easier to deal with.  I'm excited.

saedo's picture

It has been hotfixed: UPDATE:

saedo — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 13:26

It has been hotfixed:

UPDATE: This has been hotfixed so that shattering a Construct removes one stack application of Strength of the Creator.

Though they are still investigating if Ignis is hitting people in the Slag pot.

(btw the hotfix also fixes the XT-002 trash by removing them from the game)

Killable by us is another matter.

So last night, when Orky was being 1 shotted.   How many Constructs did we have?   Killed by the 2nd?  3rd?   And did we get the whole dance with the shattering Brittle Constructs down?

So maybe killable, if we're able to keep the Construct numbers to be probably no more than 1 or 2 for very long.    He still hits very hard on the tanks.

Another thing possibly to try, able to have the hunters kinda play zone defense?   MD constructs to OT?   Or were they doing that already?

    Hunters can use

Luminaire — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 12:55

Hunters can use Deterrence to deflect Flame Jets.  Tested this every pull and worked every time. While this can only be used once every 1.5 minutes it helps to stop 20k+ of incoming damage at least 2 times during the fight.  I created a macro to cancel the deterrence buff once flame jets is done casting so I could get back to dpsing quicker.

Now that you mention it.  I

saedo — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 13:00

Now that you mention it.  I did notice once that a Flame Jet "missed" me once.   I just assumed it was a resist and brushed it off.    Perhaps it's physical avoidance.     Like like Void Reaver's knockback.     So possibly Rogues can use Evasion (every 3 mins or so).

And maybe other classes got avoidance CDs or trinkets to take advantage of too.

Dragon's picture

If it ends up being resist

Dragon — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 13:39

If it ends up being resist instead of avoidance (since deterrence reflects spells and attacks from the front as long as it is targetted at the hunter) you could use Cloak of Shadows every 2 minutes? against those attacks too :D

saedo's picture

Hm does spells too?   Dunno.

saedo — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 15:46

Hm does spells too?   Dunno.   This assumedly is an aoe, so what mechanic would allow avoidance there?

Dragon's picture

Well here, lemme go look up

Dragon — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 16:09

Well here, lemme go look up the exact deterrence, ah here we go.

When activated, increases parry chance by 100% and grants a 100% chance to deflect spells cast by targets in front of you.  While Deterrence is active, you cannot attack.  Lasts 5 sec.

citation: http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=19263#comments

So basically saedo, if its spell based, you SHOULD be able to cloak it as its a spell and therefore requires a resist chance. Since it is fire damage this would be my guess. (Remember spells CAN miss nowadays as well as be resisted)

Stomps the ground causing geysers of flame to erupt under all enemies. These geysers deal 5655 to 6345 Fire damage, knocking the targets into the air and interrupting any spells being cast for 8 sec. In addition, the targets take 1000 Fire damage per second for 8 sec.

citation: http://www.wowwiki.com/Ignis_the_Furnace_Master

Based on what it says above, each geyser targets one person (good for single target mitigation).

Obviously if it is physical, then evasion instead of Cloak.

We can probably update this tonight after raid when we get more info from both our rogues and our hunters in both raids.

I can confirm that Flame Jets

Derchlon — Thu, 04/16/2009 - 16:43

I can confirm that the Flame Jets ability was DEFLECTED and not parried.  This conclusively means it is a spell effect. (if there were any doubts)

Added some info on the Trash

Added some info on the Trash packs before Ignis.
